“I’m here if you need to talk, but I know this is between you two, and you’ll eventually figure it out or destroy each other. I’d much prefer it if you didn’t destroy each other.”

“Me too.”

CHAPTERTHIRTY-FIVE

Orin foldedhis arms over his chest and scowled at the women strolling down the street arm in arm. Their heads were bent close together as they smiled and talked.

Sahira looked alothappier than the last time he saw her, when she’d told him he made her miserable. That had been the last thing he expected after she’d so enthusiastically given herself to him. No one should be unhappy after orgasmingtwice.

He didn’t understand how she could be. It was one of the many annoying mysteries of her, and he was not happy about it.

They should be preparing to leave, and these two were doing who knew what. They also looked far too cozy for his liking.

He didn’t think Elsa had any interest in Sahira sexually; he would understand if she did, hiswitch was irresistible, but he didn’t get that sense from Elsa. Sahira and Elsa were good friends, and neither wanted anything more. He still didn’t like it.

Sahira didn’t consider him a friend, and he certainly wasn’t going to talk about her feelings or anything like that with her, but he found himself wishing it washim. He craved a bond like this with her.

His scowl deepened over this realization. He’d never sought a bond with anyone other than his family… but he did with her.

He hated this shit.

Zeth settled onto the porch and draped an arm over his knee as the brownies emerged from their holes and gathered closer. They had dug far more of them into the ground than Orin had realized, and they came from everywhere.

When they were only a few feet away, Sahira and Elsa stopped walking. “Where have you been?” Orin demanded more harshly than he’d intended.

Sahira frowned at him while Elsa grinned.

“That’s none of your business,” Sahira replied.

Shereallyloved pissing him off, but he probably said the same thing about her.

“We should have left by now, but we’ve been waiting for the two of you.”

“You’re free to go off on your own.”

They glared at each other as Elsa laughed and disentangled her arm from Sahira’s. Zeth’s eyebrows rose as his gaze shifted from him to Sahira and back again.

“Let me get my stuff.” Elsa jogged up the steps. She stopped beside him and leaned closer to whisper, “Maybe you should try not being an asshole for a change. It might get you a lot further.”

His eyes narrowed on the pretty witch who grinned at them. “Didn’t you say you had to get your shit?”

“Easy there, tiger, I’m getting there. I just thought you should know that plenty of men and women would gladly scoop her up.”

“Does that include you?”

“Maybe.”

She winked at him before continuing into the pub. His jaw clenched as his teeth ground together until he was sure they’d crack.

The witch was messing with him and trying to prove a point, but he wasn’t in the mood for mind games.Hewas the only one who could play those.

He had enough problems with one witch; he didn’t need more with another one. If Elsa tried to take Sahira from him, he’d gladly kill her.

Sahira climbed the stairs next. Her gaze held his before she turned her nose into the air and stalked past. Orin rolled his eyes and almost started after her, but he refused to chase her.

Let her throw her little fit, she’d return. She could say she wouldn’t, but she’d proven that wasn’t true this morning. He doubted she’d have any more restraint next time.

Orin felt the demon’s eyes on him and turned to meet Zeth’s steady, yellow eyes. “You’re looking a lot better.”
