When her voice broke on the word weak, he lifted an eyebrow. Orin considered her one of the strongest women he’d ever met; he admired and respected her, which wasn’t something he could say about many, and he’d met a lot of immortals in his lifetime.

Out of all those immortals, he could count on one hand the amount he respected… who weren’t part of his family. Sahira and Lexi were two of them.

How did he upset her more than the witches and warlocks who despised her because of her vampire blood? All he’d ever done was make her feel good, irritate her, and play some mind games… but that was all in good fun.

“You’re not weak, Sahira.”

“No, I’m a fool. I’m just a hole for you to pass the time and someone to feed from until we’re out of here. This won’t happen again.”

Her words irritated him for some reason, and he scowled, though she probably couldn’t see it through the shadows while she jerked on her pants. He didn’t like how she talked about herself or that he’d somehow made her feel that way.

“You’re more than aholefor me to pass the time with,” he told her.

“Why do you keep coming afterme? Why can’t you leave me alone? But I might not have to ask that for much longer; once you find another willing body, you’ll move on to them.”

He hadn’t been able to do that so far, but there wasno wayhe would let her know. And she was right; even if he hadn’t screwed the nymph or the other women he’d flaunted in front of her, he planned on finding many more beds to warm once they were out of here.

That was who he was. It was what he did, and he wasn’t going to change.

Then why did a part of him protest that, and why did he feel…sadness? Was that actual sadness over moving on to other women? How wasthatpossible?

It wasn’t. Dark fae didn’t get sad over fucking; it was what they did and who they were. It was whohewas, but he’d grown to like her.

CHAPTERTHIRTY-THREE

“I’ll still consider us friends,”he said.

“Friends,” she scoffed, moving forward so he could see her better. “You’ll consider usfriends?”

“Wouldn’t you?”

“No. My friends don’t manipulate and play games with me. What happened today was my choice, but let’s face it, that’s all you want from me. I’m a plaything to you, someone to torture and pass the time with while we’re stuck here.

“As soon as we’re out of this realm, you’ll be in someone else’s bed, and I doubt you’ll ever talk to me again unless it has something to do with Lexi and Cole. Friends have dinner and drinks together, socialize, and keep in touch, but you’ll be gone the second we’re out of here. We’re not friends.Youdon’thavefriends.”

He couldn’t argue with that; he found friends to be a nuisance. He had his family, and that was what mattered, but when Lexi and Cole married, Sahira would become family too.

Plus, he didn’t find the idea of drinks with Sahira as annoying as he would with anyone else. He’d enjoy sitting down, catching up, and maybe getting her back into his bed. She might not be on board for that last part, but he was sure he could get her to change her mind.

She’d also become more than a plaything to him, but he could never tell her. The woman had no idea how much of an effect she had on him; if she had the slightest notion, it could get ugly for him.

“I hope you’re at least still on birth control. I didn’t bother to bring any with me; Ineverthought this would happen again.”

He was glad she’d been wrong about that. “I’m always prepared for that.” There weren’t going to beanybabies in his future.

“Of course you are; it’s always any port in a storm for you.”

“I do like it when things are wet and rocking.”

“You’re disgusting.”

“And you should let go and enjoy things for a change. Your life would be much happier if you stopped overanalyzingeverything.”

Red burned in her eyes. Leaning back on his elbows, he smiled. This wasn’t how he’d expected this to end, but he enjoyed irritating the little witch.

“Fuck you,” she spat.

“We’ve got plenty of time to do that again.”
