“I’m coming withyou.”

“No, it will bebetter if I go alone.”

“No, it won’t.You’re going out there to hunt monsters, and you’ll need somebackup. Besides, I made that sword; Iwillsee it in action.I also plan to see if what you told me is true and no one else canuse this sword like you did against those Savages in thestore.”

Saber slid thesword back into its sheath. “Are you calling me a liar?”

“No, but I don’ttrust you. And be honest; you would do the same thing if our roleswere reversed. Don’t pretend otherwise.”

“I won’t pretend,but you’re still not coming with me.”

“Then I’m notmaking any more swords. Good luck finding someone else to do it,and don’t come back here when you’re done. I won’t let you in.”

CHAPTER 49

She turned on herheel and started toward the back door. After all the hours she putinto that sword, she deserved to see it in action. She wanted ashower and maybe, by some miracle, a night of uninterrupted sleep.Mostly, she wanted away fromhim.

She was almost tothe door when Saber appeared in front of her. The man moved likeliquid mercury and was faster than anything she’d ever seen.

Somehow, shemanaged to keep her shock hidden, but she couldn’t stop herselffrom stepping back. He had her sword in hand, he was a killer, andshe’d prefer not to turn to ash today.

Despite hertrepidation, she lifted her chin and glared at him. “Get. Out. Of.My. Way.”

Saber didn’t move.“If this sword works as good as it looks, we’ll need you to makethe rest of them.”

“And I have tomake sure they do what you say before that happens. I’m not wastingmy time making swords that do nothing against the demons.

“That metalworking technique has only been passed down throughmyfamily throughout the generations. It takes some time; it’s apainstaking process and a special weapon. I’m not going to blindlymake more weapons and hand them out to vampires I don’t knowwithout seeing them in action.”

“You saw whathappened to the bodies of those Savages in your parents’store.”

“They were alreadydead. How do I know it will do the same thing to the living ones?I’m supposed to just takeyourword for it? I don’t evenlike you.”

Saber smiled as heleaned a little closer. “Maybe that’s true, but you want to fuckme.”

Caro’s eyebrowsrose at his predatory smile while his words sank in. And once theydid, fury boiled through her veins, churned in her belly, andbecame a roiling inferno demanding release.

Saber knew hiswords were a low blow, but he couldn’t help admiring how wrathdarkened her face and red sparked in her eyes. The woman wasgorgeous, and though he’d been right, she wasn’t the only one whocraved a good fucking.

He wanted her asbadly as she did him. Probably more so because she looked ready tokill him. His mouth watered at the possibility of a good,anger-filled screw. She would bewild.

“I wouldn’t fuckyou with Cleopatra’s twat you imbecilic, Neanderthal of a man!”Caro spat.

“I should hopenot; hers is probably a little sandy after all her time in thedesert.” He shuddered. “And abrasive.”

“You’re anasshole.”

“Yet, you’d stillsuck my cock.”

He’d spent manyyears around Savages, demons, and vampires, most of them were olderthan her, but she was still powerful and fast. So fast, he didn’tsee the punch coming until his head shot back and his teeth clackedtogether from the uppercut she delivered to his chin.

The little hellionfollowed the punch by lowering her shoulder, charging him, andshoving him back. Saber’s hand tightened on the sword’s hilt, buthe couldn’t draw it against her.

If something everhappened to her….

He couldn’t finishthe thought and didn’t get the chance as she drove her elbow intohis gut. The breath rushed out of him.

Saber released thehilt and went to grasp her as she spun away. A backhanded slapconnected with his cheek and shot his head to the side.
