The ocean scent ofher permeated his skin until it seeped into his cells and became apart of him. When she didn’t push him away, he moved lower untilhis lips brushed her temple, then her cheek.

Turning his head,he rested his cheek against hers as he took solace in the calmingeffect she had over him. For some reason, when he was with her, hecould simply breathe again, something he hadn’t done incenturies.

Since he stoppedaging, there had been a constant knot in his chest. That knot easedwhen he started killing, but it never completely disappeared. Itloosened enough for him toalmostfeel like he did the daybefore he fully matured.

With her, therewas no knot. There was only the two of them, this moment, and thepleasure she brought. The unexpected urge to cry suddenly assailedhim. He’d never expected to feel this kind of peace again, but asit gripped him, he shoved it angrily away.

She was a piece ofass, nothing more. That’s all he was here for, and he wasn’t aboutto let her tempt him into giving up his rigid control over hisemotions.

But he was goingto kiss her, and he would have her. She would never break past hisbarriers, there could never be anything more than sex between them, but hewouldbe inside her and didn’t care what it took toget there.

Caro’s breathcaught; she should push him away and flee from him as fast as theSavages, but cement suddenly encased her lower body, and there wasno moving. She should do so many things, but she didn’t do any ofthem as his lips moved toward hers.

When his mouthfound the corner of hers, she finally hitched in a breath, and thefingers she’d dug into her palms unfurled. The arms shesworeshe wouldn’t touch were oh so deliciously well-muscledbeneath her hands. The man had been carved from marble and was asbeautiful as a masterpiece.

Get away fromhim! This is all going to end one way… badly!

Her mouth turnedinto his instead.

CHAPTER 28

Once the firmnessof his lips claimed hers, her protesting brain screeched to a haltand ceased working as the feeling took over. It was the simplesttouch, yet it seared away the memory of the kisses that came beforeit, leaving her a blank canvas meant for him to bring to life.

And bring her tolife he did as the kiss went from tender to something moredemanding while his mouth moved over hers. He clasped her cheeksbetween his rough palms, drawing her closer.

He kissed like aman going to war who didn’t expect to return. Kissed like she washis conquest and he would never relinquish her.

And she likedit!

That was thecraziest part of all. She’d never lost control of herself with aman before. She stayed in charge, she led the way, but she wasn’tin control here.

She brieflyquestioned her sanity, but his tongue sweeping in to entwine withhers ended any of those thoughts. It was as if someone had takengasoline and a match to her; heat seeped through her body, and aphysical, almost painful ache settled between her thighs.

Whereas burning inreal life would be anawfulexperience, this was anythingbut horrible. No one had ever ignited this blaze of passion thatSaber did over her body.

A low growl rolledup Saber’s throat as her scent intensified. He forgot all abouttheir surroundings and the circumstances that brought them here asshe became the center of his world.

She felt betterthan she smelled. When she leaned into him, her breasts pressedagainst his chest, and her hair tickled his cheek. And thosebreasts felt as good as he’d known they would.

Releasing hercheek, he skimmed one hand down her body to the side of her breast. Her whimper was the most delicious sound he ever heard as her hipsarched into him.

Stepping closer,he pushed her back against the wall as his hand traced the contoursof her hips and waist before brushing the button of her jeans. Hedidn’t care where they were; he would have her. When she nipped hislip, he slid the button free.

“Oh!” someoneexclaimed from behind them.

Murderous ragefilled Saber as he tore his mouth away from Caro’s and turned toface whoever had dared to interrupt them. A teenage girl with wide, unblinking eyes stared back at him before she giggled and duckedback. The curtain slid into place with a rustle of fabric.

With the kissended, reality was a bucket of ice water over his head.Whatwas he thinking?

He’d been actinglike an idiot. Three Savages still hunted them, and possibly morewere on the way, yet here he was, kissing the woman who was theirmain target and the possible key to creating the weapons theyrequired to destroy the demons.

His job was toprotect her, notscrew her. He’d let her distract him, lether get to him, and he wouldn’t let it happen again. This was aone-time screwup. He still planned on fucking her, but it would beonhisterms and underhiscontrol.

When Saberabruptly released her, the air rushed back into Caro’s lungs, andher cheeks burned as the reality of what she’d done sank in. Shewasn’t embarrassed someone walked in on them; she was mortified atherself for kissing him while the monsters who murdered her parentshunted them.

And how could Iforget my parents! It had only been two weeks since theirdeaths, and she’d been so close to humping this man in a publicplace with no thought to them.

She should stillbe mourning them. Shewasstill mourning them, but for amoment, Caro had forgotten all about them and, in doing so, feltlike she’d betrayed them. She was a horrible daughter.
