“Then we won’t,” she said with a smile. “Isthe world different for you? I know for humans, the newlyheightened senses can be overwhelming at first, but Kadence saidshe didn’t experience that.”

Nathan reluctantly released her and steppedback. “No. Everything looks, smells, and sounds the same. Exceptnow—” He prodded the tip of a fang as he watched her pulse beat inher neck. “—now, my desire for your blood is nearly as great as theone for your body.”

“It must be a huge temptation then as thisis afantasticbody.”

He chuckled as he stripped out of his ruinedclothes and grasped the edge of her shirt. “Yes, it is,” heagreed.

She lifted her arms to let him pull off hershirt and toss it aside. He removed her bra next and feasted on thesight of her full breasts when they spilled free. Cupping one ofthem, he bent to tongue her nipple before tugging at the ring therewith his teeth.

Vicky gasped when his fangs scraped over thebud, the new sensation of feeling his fangs on her nearly drove hermad. She craved his bite, but he pulled away.

“Nathan,” she grumbled.

He grasped the waistband of her yoga pantsand tugged them down her legs before tossing them aside. When helifted his head, he caught his reflection in the mirror behind her;his eyes had turned white-blue while he’d been pulling off herpants. He’d seen Kadence’s eyes, and then Sergei’s; he should haveknown his would become the same color when his emotions wereheightened, but the sight of them still startled him.

Vicky rested her hand on his cheek, drawinghis attention back to her. “It will take time to get used to thechanges.”

With a finger, she traced his bottom lipuntil Nathan drew it into his mouth and sucked on it. He wrappedhis arms around her again and lifted her from the sink. She lockedher legs around his waist, rising over him as the head of his cockteased her entrance, causing her to grow wetter with every step hetook toward the shower.

Steam rose around them when he entered theshower and closed the glass door behind them. Turning, he pressedher against the tiled wall as the hot water sluiced over hisbattered muscles. Vicky’s wet heat slicked the head of his dickbefore he grasped her hips and buried himself inside her.

Unlike his other senses, this joiningbetween them was heightened as ripples of ecstasy raced over hisflesh, further easing the discomfort of his sore muscles.

“You feel so good,” he groaned against herthroat before sinking his fangs into her flesh.

Nathan feasting on her blood while he movedwithin her was the most erotic thing Vicky had ever experienced. All she could feel was his slick body possessing hers; all shecould smell was the increasing cypress scent of him.

This was what she’d been missing for years.Thiswas what she’d always needed.

Her tears of joy mingled with the water asshe lowered her head to his shoulder and bit deep. Nathan’s palmcrashed into the tile beside her so forcefully it cracked and fellaround them. He growled as the bond between them swelled toencompass them. All the tension of these past months faded away asshe finally claimed her mate.

Nathan’s pulse boomed in his ears as herblood filled his cells, strengthening him while it tied themtogether. He bit deeper when her thoughts and emotions swirled outto tease his mind as the pathway between their minds opened.Pulling his hand away from the shower wall, he cradled the back ofher head as her love suffused him.

Beyond that love, he sensed the fear drivingher for so long. The certainty that she would never find her mate, and if she did, he would somehow destroy her. Now, he felt herworries ease as they continued to feed on each other and the bondbetween them intensified.

Reluctantly, he retracted his fangs fromher. “Nothing will ever tear us apart,” he vowed.

CHAPTER 49

Nathan kept Vicky’s hand in his as they madetheir way downstairs the next morning. They’d spent the rest ofyesterday in bed, and as much as he’d like to do so again today, they both had things to do.

He’d told his followers he planned to becomea vampire, but Nathan didn’t know how they would react to theknowledge hewasone. He could lose more of them, but hecouldn’t do anything to stop that. No matter the consequences, hewouldn’t have chosen differently. Every second of his transitionwas worth sharing this bond with Vicky, and he would gladly do itagain if he had to.

Glancing at Vicky, he was pleased to notethe color back in her cheeks and the shadows gone from her eyes asshe fairly bounced along beside him. His mind brushed at the edgesof hers, an ever-present connection he welcomed. He’d witnessed thelove between Ronan and Kadence, but he’d never realized how deepthe bond ran between them or the power that came with it.

The change hadn't heightened his senses, butit had increased his strength. Nathan didn’t have to fight anyoneto know he was stronger; he felt it in everything he did.Unfortunately, he hadn’t gotten used to it yet, and the shower wallhad a few more dents, he’d broken the headboard off the bed, andtorn the knob from the bathroom door.

He would have to be careful around humansand hunters until he completely adjusted, but he enjoyed thisnewfound power. However, more than this added strength, he lovedseeing Vicky relaxed and radiant as she strolled beside him.

His free hand flexed, stretching the skinover his knuckles as he stepped into the crowded dining room. Theroom was large enough to hold fifty guests comfortably, but nearlya hundred hunters were crammed inside as others worked to dish outpancakes and oatmeal. The chatter died away as more and morenoticed the two of them standing in the doorway.

Nathan kept his shoulders back as allconversation died away. At his side, Vicky smiled and waved toElfry who, after a minute, waved back at her. The wave broke thehush, but the returning chatter had a speculative tone to it now.Vicky slid her hand from his as Asher and Logan approached.

“I should go speak with Elfry,” Vicky said.“I don’t want her thinking we planned your change and never toldher.”

“Do you think it makes a difference?” heinquired, curious as to what she would say.

“Oh, yes,” Vicky replied. “These huntersstayed because they believe your course of action will preserveyour race, but they also stayed because they look to Elfry forguidance. She’s wise as well as kind, and she holds sway overthem.”
