I’m speechless.

It’s the perfect shade of purple. Maxi length with just enough dragging on the floor to warrant a pair of short heels, swooped sleeves that rest against my biceps in line with a square neckline, thin spaghetti straps that help keep the girls exactly where it all needs to be to help finish off the dress.

“If you don’t get that fucking dress, you’re out of my wedding.” Elle announces and all of us burst into fits of laughter.

My eyes are watering with joy.

I look over at Lola who’s also come out in a new dress, it’s a similar cut in the skirt, but with a sweetheart neckline and flowy sleeves.

“We look hot as hell.” I declare. I hope Lola actually likes the dress she’s wearing because my mind has decided that this is what we’re going to look like as our sister gets married.

“Perfect, now if Elle would let us get a look atherdress.” Paul crosses his arms and glares at the future bride. Lola and I have seen it but Elle has stated she doesn’t trust our little brother to not let something slip about it.

It is perfect.

Elle looked amazing in it and I’d never thought an article of clothing could capture a love story but somehow, this dress had. Maybe it was the joy that Elle felt while she was wearing it that glowed from her but seeing her in that dress was like watching Elle and Patrick fall in love all over again. When Paul had tried to get information on what it looked like, that was the only way I could describe it. It was like their love story.

He’s not mad about not being allowed to see it, notat all.

“Don’t be a baby.” Elle wraps her arms around Paul’s neck and gives him a tight squeeze.

“Quick, someone take a picture!” Paul screeches, eyes wide in surprise. Elle huffs, drops her arms, and pushes Paul off his chair.

The poor associate stands with a look of fear on her face as the four of us burst into laughter again. I take pity on the poor girl, wrapping my arm around Lola’s shoulder. “We’ll take ‘em.”

Chapter Forty-Four

JUDE

Ineed to get off this phone call.

I’d mistakenly answered what I thought was going to be a teasing call from Mabel turned out to be my mother with another invitation to a party Leeson had decided to throw. Of course, all children were required. Especially after I’d missed the big celebration Leeson had put together for Pioneer Day.

“I just don’t understand what’s so terrible about taking one afternoon to be with your family. Am I really that awful of a mother?”

There was nothing closer to hell than being put on a guilt trip by your mother while you waited for your who-knows-what-you-should-call-her to meet you in her workshop so you could get a blow job.

“I mean, really, Jude! It feels like the only time you allow yourself to spend with the family is when you’re taking Mark and Everly away from our home!” Her voice was starting to shake which meant the waterworks would be soon joining the conversation.

Of course, that was the moment Mabel tore into the workshop. The door slammed against the wall before she stepped in, kicking it closed behind her.

“Come on, Muscles. I told you to be ready for me.” Mabel’s voice was loud, she assumed we were alone, and my mother caught it.

“Who’s with you? What are you getting ready for? Is that awoman?” She spat out the last word, like being around a woman was something scandalous. I could barely contain my eye roll as I answered her.

“Yes, mother, of course it’s a woman. I’m at work.” Out of my periphery I saw Mabel’s jaw slacken. Thank Christ what she said could be interpreted a number of ways.

“Well, how am I supposed to know there’s a woman working on that farm?” She sniffed, judgement clear in her voice. Some of my annoyance was replaced by shock that I was speaking to the same woman who worked multiple jobs when I was a kid, when it was just the two of us.

“I’m so sorry, I’ll just—” Mabel started to gesture like she was going to leave but, of course, my mother heard her voice again.

“Is this woman the reason you’re avoiding us?” What an insane accusation. I was done with this conversation and was ready to tell her so, but she just kept talking. “Bring her. If this woman is taking up so much of your time, I’m sure she can spare an afternoon for something you want to do.” There was so much wrong with everything she had just said, I didn’t know where to start. “I have to go, I’m so upset, I need to calm down before I head out to pick up the kids. I’ll tell Leeson we’ll be expecting you and yourwoman friendat the house this weekend.”

“No, mom, n—” She hung up on me!

I couldn’t look at Mabel but I could feel her eyes on me. This was not how I’d wanted this afternoon to go. I had plans. Yes, those plans involved a blow job. They also involved me licking Mabel’s pussy until she was orgasm-drunk enough to take me up on my offer to take her to lunch.

If anyone asked, I had the perfect reason for us to be together off-Farm. Well, the truth would be perfect,I just want to be around her as much as possible, but that isn’t a truth I can tell. No matter how much I want it.
