Finally, he turned. Slowly, almost reluctantly. His mouth was turned down, and his normally golden pallor was pale. His beautiful eyes were red. Not his pupils, just the whites. As if he'd been…
"Why are you sad?"
Loud thunder echoed around me, eliciting a startled gasp. My eyes widened, and I stumbled back as the scenery surrounding us folded. The towering mountains in the distance started to collapse, giant rocks rolling down in loud rumbles. The branches of the towering pine trees started to crack as they rattled and fell.
Buildings shattered and exploded around me, and I covered my ears in horror at the deafening sound.
"Wha-what's going on? Acheron?" I screamed.
All the while, Acheron remained still. His sad, blue, and red eyes remained fixed on me. I grabbed his arm, ready to shake some sense into him.
"Acheron? Wha—"
“I will always love you," he murmured, although his voice carried over the noise. "I will always be looking for you."
My hands fell as he turned and walked away. I called out to him, screaming for him to come back. I tried to follow, but my body felt trapped—my feet like glue—unable to move. All I could do was scream his name until my voice grew hoarse.
Chapter 20
Alice
Iwas sleeping on a cloud. One so soft and comfortable that I didn't want to move. My body felt utterly boneless and free—nothing like the usual weariness and aching that had become like a second skin on me.
With a soft sigh, I turned my head and rubbed my face into the fluffy pillow beneath it.
This definitely did not feel like my usual bed.
My eyes flew open, and I scrambled to sit up before moaning and wincing at the head rush. My bleary eyes took in the scene before me, my mind taking longer to catch up. The first thing I noticed was that I was currently lying on a luxurious, super king-size canopy bed. My body was covered in satin sheets, the same ruby-red color as the heavy velvet curtains that bordered the bed.
Without looking, I knew that the bed was bracketed by wood carved with an intricate design. The framing traveled high before it molded into the ceiling and walls.
The rest of the huge bedroom was decorated in carved mahogany; there was a gorgeous chandelier and a roaring fireplace with candles lit on the mantel above.
It was all so gorgeous; opulent, yet cozy. And so familiar.
The door to the bedroom flew open, and I jumped in fright, grasping the sheets to cover my body.
Acheron paused in the doorway, his gaze wild and intense. Dark eyes raked me from head to torso before he visibly relaxed.
Suddenly it all came back to me in one swift rush…the party, David rushing off, my attacker, and Acheron coming to my rescue.
The blood…so much blood. I swallowed and paled at the grisly memory.
I remembered everything.
Ikneweverything.
I knew who he was.
"I've been here before."
His brow furrowed, surprised at my words. I guess he expected me to be distraught and scared. Any normal human would be.
"When?" he quizzed. He didn't even doubt me.
I swallowed thickly, licking my dry lips. "In my dreams."
His eyes widened in shock, flashing black then blue. He breathed deeply before moving further into the room, still sweeping my face with caution. "You've dreamed of this place?"
