“I can’t.” This close, Logan’s scent was intoxicating, wrapping around Cole like a warm blanket. Like safety, likehome. He wanted to shut his eyes and stay in this moment forever.

“Hey?” Logan put two fingers under his chin and lifted his head up. He brushed his lips against Cole’s, the gentlest of touches yet enough to light a fire inside him.

Sinking his hands into Logan’s hair, Cole pulled him back in, sealing their lips together and kissing him like he’d wanted to since he’d heard him howl in the woods.

Logan’s arms slipped around him, pulling them together, and Cole moaned, forgetting for a moment that they weren’t alone. They touched everywhere from thigh to chest, warm skin against warm skin.

His dick hardened, trapped between them, with Logan’s a firm pressure against his thigh.

A throat cleared somewhere behind them, and Logan pulled back with a heavy sigh.

“We need to go,” Smith murmured, howls already sounding close by. “Now.” He shifted into his wolf, paws impatiently tearing at the ground.

Logan grabbed him, hands gripping Cole’s face as he kissed him fiercely before stepping back and shifting. The familiar silver wolf stood in front of him, butting against his leg before running off into the night, Aaron hot on his heels.

Cole wanted to follow them, torn between doing what he had to and what he desperately wanted to. Smith growled, snapping him to attention, and Cole shifted, tipping his head back and howling up to the moon. A chorus of howls answered, calling to his wolf on a base level.

Pack.

Yet the one he yearned to hear most remained silent.

Cole spentmost of Tuesday sleeping. He understood why everyone had the day off after a full-moon run, because he was knackered. The very idea of training made him close his eyes and snuggle back under the covers.

Sleeping also stopped him from rehashing what had happened the night before. But he could only sleep for so long before getting stiff from lying down in the same position. And he was also starving.

Armed with a huge sandwich and a drink, Cole sat on the sofa, and with no distractions, his mind went to town.

Smith knew about them.

Cole didn’t know the extent of that knowledge, nor had he been alone with him since to ask about it.

“I’m Jacob’s contact in the HRU.”

What did that mean exactly?

Was Smith part of the CEG?

Did he know about them or... what? He must know, right? Or why would he be helping them?

Cole tried to think back to his interrogation. Smith had seemed pretty fucking intimidating then. Had he done anything to help Cole? He’d tried to block it from his memory and had apparently succeeded as he couldn’t really remember. Had he done anything for Cole since then?

He thought back to that first day. Had Smith even been there?

Whatever, he’d definitely helped them out last night. If Paul found out he and Logan were a thing, everything would’ve unravelled. And Paul wasn’t stupid. They needed to be extra careful now. If they did anything else to cause suspicion, he’d likely put two and two together and the only place they’d end up would be jail.

Cole sighed, the memory of Logan pressed against him, all that skin... He clung to it, knowing it would be all he had for a while. Full of food, lethargy crept back in. Cole closed his eyes, accepting defeat, and slept.

The knock on Cole’s door the next morning sounded familiar, yet different. Cole shouted for them to come in and turned to see Aaron standing there.

Just Aaron.

“Where’s Logan?”

Panic gripped him, but Aaron was quick to reassure him. “He’s already at the training centre. Some of Paul’s team came to collect him early this morning.”

For the fucking interrogation.
