“Do you want them to toss you in shifter jail and be left to rot?” Logan tried, flinching at the mere idea of it. “I hope not, Cole, because that would be a fucking waste. You have so much potential.”

Still nothing.

Well done, Cole.

“You know that joining our pack is your only option right now.”

“I know that,” Cole growled out, lips pulled taut around his teeth.

Logan gestured over his shoulder. “And is that what you want?”

Their eyes met, and Logan tried to convey that this was the moment he needed to give in. They couldn’t afford any of Paul’s team to take it further.

Closing his eyes and letting his shoulders drop, Cole nodded.

Now for the hard part.

“Good. All you have to do is answer a few questions.”

Another nod.

Logan looked away from him, swivelling round a little until he could see Jez. “Shall I carry on, or do you want to take over?”

“You carry on, seems like you’re getting somewhere.”

Right. Clearing his throat, Logan asked, “Who got you out of London?”

Cole hesitated.

Logan caught movement out of the corner of his eye. “What the—”

Smith shot past him towards Cole. Logan was scrambling to his feet as Cole’s scream echoed off the walls. Grabbing Smith’s arm, Logan spun him round to see him holding one of Cole’s bloodied fangs.

With a roar he didn’t even try to stop, Logan grabbed Smith by the throat and shoved him against the nearest wall. “Why the fuck did you do that?” he yelled, right in his face.

Smith looked unfazed by Logan’s actions. “He hesitated.” He had the nerve to shrug like it was no big thing.

Logan closed his eyes for a second, fully aware he needed to calm the hell down. “He might have been thinking about what to say.”

“But we don’t want him to think. The point of keeping him in this state is so that he can’t,” Smith replied, voice irritatingly rational. “Time to think means time to formulate a lie. Pain makes it impossible to think.” Putting his hand on top of Logan’s, he added, “You’re not familiar with interrogation methods, so I’ll let it go this time.” He tugged at Logan’s fingers until Logan got the message and let go. “But don’t fucking touch me again. You’re in enough trouble as it is. Don’t make me add to it by reporting your actions to Paul.”

Logan swallowed down the urge to rip his throat out and stepped back.

“Ask him again, and if he doesn’t answer straight away, you’ll be ripping out the next tooth.”

No fucking way would he be doing that. Just... no.

Taking his spot back in front of Cole, he tried again. Hoping like fuck Cole got the message that they’d played this out as much as they needed to. Now was the time to tell Jez and the others what they wanted to hear. As much as he could anyway.

“I don’t want to have to pull your fucking teeth out, Cole. But I will because I need you to answer truthfully and become a functioning member of this pack. It’s the only way I can try and make up for my mistakes in letting you escape.”

“Think it’s going to take more than that,” someone mused behind him, but Logan ignored them.

“So,” he carried on. “You help me out here, and I promise I’ll do my best to help you adjust to pack life.”

Cole stared at him, hate and agony rolling off him so thick it almost hurt to be around him.

Drawing in a breath, Logan tried again. “How did you get out of London?”
