What the fuck?

“Jacob told us we have to escort him on full-moon runs. Pretty sure that order came down from Michael himself.” He managed to keep his voice even, but inside he seethed.

Paul shrugged. “I cleared it with Simon.”

FuckingSimon.

“The team needs to be able to trust each member in it. A full-moon run is an ideal opportunity to cement bonds.” He cocked his head to one side, eyebrows drawing together. “I thought you’d be pleased to be off babysitting duty.”

“We are,” Aaron cut in. “Does that mean we can run at our local place then?”

Paul laughed, the sound edged with his usual sneer. “No. You’ll still be held responsible if he tries to escape.”

“Of course.” Logan scoffed. “So nothing’s really changed.”

“Cole will be running with us. Your job is to keep up and make sure he stays with us.”

“I thought you needed to trust each other?” Logan scowled at him. This wasn’t about building trust at all. He just wanted Cole where he could see him. Having Logan and Aaron there gave him scapegoats in case anything went wrong.

“Theteamneed to trust each other. I need to plan for every eventuality.”

Logan hated that it made sense. “You think you can’t keep track of him on your own?” He laughed, ignoring Aaron’s slight head shake. “That why you need me and Aaron to pick up the pieces?”

Paul stepped in close, the anger rolling off him stifling. “If Cole decides and manages to evade me and my team, then good fucking riddance to him. Nothing you two idiots can do will stop him.” He smiled, the coldness of it reminding Logan that he needed to be careful. “But you’ll take the blame.”

“Naturally.” Logan rolled his eyes but didn’t call Paul any of the names he had on the tip of his tongue.

Progress.

“Fletcher and Smith will escort Cole from his flat tonight. You can meet us at the edge of the forest.” With that, he turned on his heel and strode off.

Fucking arsehole.

“Come on.” Aaron took his arm and tugged him forward. “I need food more than ever now. And we need to let Cole know about the change of plans.”
