“Why would I mind? You loved Paul. I loved him too. I don’t want to forget him because we are together now, Kate. He’s the one who brought us together. Without him…” I shook my head. It was hard to find the right words, but I hoped she understood.
I killed the engine, frowning at the closed gates. Since when did cemeteries have closing times?
“Legacy.”
I turned to Kate, and she threw herself at me. Her arms pulled my head towards hers.
For a few minutes, I lost myself in the feel of her soft lips against mine. Kissing her was something I could die doing. I would never get sick of it.
I’d never get sick of her.
This had happened so quickly. Falling in love with her. But at the same time, it seemed to have been a slow fall. I hadn’t been in love with her when Paul was alive. I knew that. But his death had brought us together, albeit slowly.
And I liked to think that Paul would be happy that we had found each other.
Kate and Conner's happiness had been the most important thing to Paul. It was the most important thing to me now.
“The gate was open earlier.”
She pulled away slightly, her eyebrows raised. “They shut it around eight. Kids kept going in and making a mess.”
“Oh.” Damn kids.
“We could come back tomorrow.”
My brow furrowed as I stared at her. We could, but I didn’t want to. Every year she visited Paul's grave on her birthday and I didn’t want that to stop because of me.
“Or I could…” Leaning forward, she squinted. “Scale the gate?”
“You want to climb it?” Bemused, I looked at her, taking in the figure hugging dress and skyscraper heels.
She slipped one of the heels from her feet. “Yeah, I think I do it. Why? You scared of getting caught?” Arching an eyebrow, she smirked. I couldn’t help myself. I laughed.
I loved this side of her personality. The playful, teasing side. It didn’t come out to play often, but when it did, I revelled in it.
“Lead the way, you little criminal,” I laughed.
For a moment, I watched her as she slid from the car. I didn’t move until she had come to a stop at the high gate. She stood there illuminated by the car headlights.
God, I was lucky.
Kate wasn’t just stunning to look at, she was strong and fun.
And mine.
The thought had my body moving to join her.
“Are you starting to regret this idea already?” Coming to a stop next to her, I gazed upwards. I could climb it easily enough, but Kate? I doubted it.
“Nope.” Her shoulders set, she gripped the iron bars and started to climb. I watched as she heaved herself upwards. “Oh.” I chuckled when she reached the top. Her dress had risen up with her climb, giving me the perfect view of a round ass and what I was guessing was a thong.
My cock jumped in my jeans, throbbing with an unmistakable need to pin her down and sink into her.
“The view from down here is fucking excellent,” I called up. She paused, glanced down, and smiled. And it was the kind of smile that lit up her entire face.
“Well.” She swung her leg up and over the top. “The views are getting further and further away from you.”
I frowned. She was right about that. Curling my hands around the metal bars, I followed her up. And even though she had a head start, it was me who hit the ground first.
