I blinked rapidly, my eyelashes fluttering.

“You’re not going to even get to the bathroom, and all my hard work will have been for nothing.” Jax swore softly under his breath, but he didn’t let go.

“How am I looking at you?”

Jax's mouth hovered over mine. “All dark with longing. It’s my fucking favourite.”

“I didn’t know I had a look.”

“Yeah, well, you do. And it always makes me want to do some real filthy things to you.” He chuckled. I tilted my head up to him, offering my lips. I might not have realised I had a look, but now I did, I was hopefully going to use it to its full advantage. The laughter died on Jax's lips. His eyes darkened; the tip of his tongue came out to swipe against the bottom one, wetting it. I held my breath. If he was going to kiss me again, then he best not stop. If he did, there was a very real possibility that I would spontaneously combust.

This whole back and forth had gone on too long already. All of that animosity was always going to end up with us in bed together. I wasn’t a believer in the whole a boy is mean to you because he likes you bull crap, but this was different. Passionate and primal. And I needed it. He did too.

What would he feel like on top of me, or even under me? Would he be gentle and want to be in charge? I wanted to know the answers so desperately, I almost moaned out loud.

“See, you’re doing it again, thinking those deliciously dark and dirty thoughts.”

I didn’t even try to deny it. What would be the point? I was having dirty thoughts about him. I had been having them since the moment I had set eyes on him. Everyone always thought Dion was the gorgeous one of the band, and they weren’t wrong, but he wasn’t the only one who could grace the covers of a romance novel. Jax was beautiful in a totally masculine way.

“Do I give this look often?”

“Not often enough, if you ask me. And luckily, just when you’re looking at me.” He shrugged. “Or maybe unluckily.”

“Unluckily?” I parroted back, confused. What did he mean unluckily? But I didn’t have long to find out.

“I wouldn’t like you looking at anyone else but me, Elodie.” His words were exactly what I wanted to hear, but the look on his face was tortured. Whatever internal struggle he was going through was one I couldn’t understand.

“But you don’t want me to look at you like it either.”

“Didn’t say that, love.” One calloused finger rubbed against my bottom lip idly. “It just makes things complicated.”

I didn’t understand that either. What was so complicated about wanting each other? We were both adults. “It doesn’t have to, Jax. It’s just sex.”

I don’t know what part of my words made him angry, but it was clear that something had. He stepped back, and his face turned away. “Go and have your bath, Elodie. Relax.”

I did what he asked, but I did it pouting.

Jax might have leftme with the worst case of blue clit known to man, but he had gone all out on the bath thing. I was pretty sure he had used every scented product he could find in the water. Whether they were meant to be in it or not. It made the deep tub slippery as all hell, but I had to admit it was relaxing. Seconds after my tired body hit the water, I closed my eyes, letting the steam and soapy water wash over my skin and the stress beneath it.

I didn’t know how much time had passed, but it felt like only seconds before there came a knock at the door. “Elodie?”

“Mmhmm,” I mumbled back, too lost in the heavenly feeling of hot water lapping against my skin.

“Everything ok?” The door opened a crack, and Jax's head appeared. “You’ve been quite a while. I was worried you had fallen asleep and drowned.”

“Not drowned. Perfectly fine.” I shifted my position, sitting up a little. From across the room, I heard Jax’s sharp intake. My eyes darted down. I was covered in a cloud of bubbles still, nothing on show, but it was close. And we both knew it.

“I’ll leave you to it, just wanted you to know I have ordered room service. Food and...” He blew out a breath. “I would have ordered champagne, but you don’t drink, so I got one of the security to get you something else.” His eyes kept wandering. “They came back with some concoction with pineapple juice, but I can get you something else and—”

“Pineapple juice and lemonade is fine,” I answered without thinking. “And thank you for thinking about food. I didn’t realise how hungry I was until…” My words died as he stepped into the room, letting the door close with a bang behind him. Neither of us said a word, but I didn’t take my eyes off him. I could see by the look on his face that he had made a decision. “Jax, could you do my back and—”

He was suddenly on his knees, his hands already on my shoulders. I let him pull me upwards. His eyes never left mine as his hand delved down, through the bubbles and into the hot water below. “You know, if we do this, then things are going to get complicated.”

We both knew he wasn’t talking about him washing my back, or even seeing me naked. And yeah, it would possibly get complicated, but it didn’t mean I didn’t want to. It didn’t mean I didn’t want him.
