“Gio has enemies. Gretal knew what she was getting into. She’s a kick ass woman.” His voice lowered as the sedan pulled to a stop. The windows were heavily tinted. But the man driving wasn't Gio.
“Fuck that shit. I don't care if she knows how to handle herself.” Closing my hand around the door handle, I swung it open, expecting to find Gretal sat on the back seat.
Gio looked up at me, his face split wide with a cruel smile. His damn hand was on Gretal's knee.
“Can I help you?”
Chapter Nine
Gretal
I had a headache, and I knew the moment Hansel opened the door that it was only going to get worse. He had a look on his face that I had seen before. Half self-righteous anger, half predatory ownership.
He was about to start shit and with Gio of all people. Hansel could handle himself, but Gio had a criminal empire behind him and more money than the Sons could ever dream of having. If Hansel pissed them off, they would end him. And one look at Gio’s face and I knew he was teetering on the edge.
“Hansel, don't start.” Plucking Gio’s hand from my knee, I scowled at the pair of them.
“Get your fucking hand off of my wife’s leg.” Hansel ignored me totally.
Rolling my eyes, I heaved myself out of the car on the other side. If they wanted to act like children, I wasn't going to waste my time trying to get into the middle of them. They could beat each other to a pulp for all I cared.
One step, and my knees buckled. I caught myself on the car door, a strangled sound falling from my lips. All three men turned towards me in shock but it was Fang that got to me first. He caught me easily, his scowl aimed directly at my husband.
“Both of you need to calm the hell down. Gretal is hurt and you are both acting like measuring your cocks is more important.” Easily he swung me up into his arms. “I got you, love.”
“Fang, I can walk, you don't need to carry me like a child.”
Fang's brown eyes darted down towards my face and there was a knowing smile on his face. “Just play along, love, it will be easier if they think you are more hurt than you are. Hansel…”
He still didn't trust Hansel. They had been close for years. To know that Fang suspected my husband was the one responsible for those women’s deaths must be tearing Hansel in half. It hurt me as well.
“Someone get the damn door.” Fang barked out. Hansel hesitated for just a second. He looked like he wanted to take me from Fang's arms but at the last minute he changed his mind. “I'm gonna need to talk to you Hansel.” Throwing a glance behind him, he glowered. “You as well, Cyber.”
“I should be getting back to Iris and the kids.”
“Yeah, Iris and the kids can wait. We need to talk.”
“Church?” Hansel followed after us with a growl.
“No, not fucking church.”
I hid my grin. Fang and Hansel were the same age so why did it sound like Fang was a headmaster and Hansel had just been a very naughty boy?
“Gypsy?” Fang called out to the empty corridor. She appeared almost instantly, a pretty blonde on her heels.
I squealed in delight. “Keeley?” It had been years since I had last seen Monster's cousin. She had been barely a woman then, still firmly in the gangly teen stage of her development. She wasn't that way now. Swatting Fang's chest to get his attention, I pointed to the floor, wanting him to put me down so I could hug her.
“Oh my God, Keeley, you are all grown up!”
“Good God, woman, will you stop wiggling?” With a grunt, Fang dropped me to my feet. My legs were shaky, but I managed to stay upright. “Go and sit down, before you fall down.”
Hansel stepped up to my side but Gio beat him to it. Taking my elbow, he threw a grin at Hansel who growled in return.
“I can help my wife to a seat.”
Rolling my eyes, I threw both their hands off me. “I can help myself to a seat, thanks.”
Why couldn't they just behave? Gio was all over me just because it was winding Hansel up and Hansel... Well, he knew I wasn't interested in Gio like that. That I was playing a part.
