“So I am a prisoner here as much as I was there?”

“You are a guest. No one here will ever hurt you. You are safe, I promise.” I repeated.

“I want to go home.” The anger in her evaporated and sadness took over again.

“I know, Briella, and I would give in to your every wish if I could, but my hands are tied. All I can say is that you are safe now.”

Her slap took me by surprise, it didn't hurt but my cheek smarted. I caught her other hand easily before she could hit me again.

“I want to go home,” she wailed, her voice rising to a screech. “You can't keep me here. You can't. I just want to go home!”

I moved without thinking, my much bigger frame pushing hers into the mattress. My mouth slanted over hers as I swallowed her screams. It was a kiss of sorts, a kiss born of desperation. But it was the only way I could think of silencing her.

It wasn't the way I wanted our first kiss to be but I was a desperate man.

And her kiss was everything.
