Darcie froze. “Guilty for what? Leaving you in bed? Yeah, that was an asshole move.”

My laughter was bitter. “Because he killed my dad.”

There was silence.

“Did you hear what I said?” I asked when it was getting too much. And still she didn't say a word. She just continued to stare at me with her mouth open.

“He killed your dad?” she finally asked.

“Yes. All of this...” I waved my hands around wildly. “This is all his fault. Me being taken and sold like a slave, all the death and pain, my daughter being taken. Hell, even Maggie being shot. This is all Cyber's fault. He started all of this the moment he used me to get to my father. He doesn't like me, Darcie, hell, he doesn't even know me. He made up some lame ass romantic story to stop himself feeling guilty.” I swallowed hard. How long had I been holding on to that piece of information? How long had I held it close to me? My hatred of Cyber was what had kept me going through even my darkest hours. But it felt good to say it to someone else. Like a great weight had been lifted from my shoulders.

At least now someone else would know what he had done. They would hate him as well.

“Cyber is a good man. If he…” Darcie chewed on her bottom lip. “He wouldn’t just murder an innocent man in cold blood.”

Her words took me by surprise. Was she really standing in front of me, defending the man who had ruined my life? I had expected a different reaction from her.

“My father was an accountant, just an accountant. He didn't deserve to die. He didn't even have a parking ticket. My father was innocent. And Cyber shot him anyway.” I tore my gaze away from hers.

“I am sorry you went through that, Iris. I’m sorry you went through any of this, that you are still going through it, but you have to be mistaken about Cyber. He's a good man. A little rough around the edges, but he has a good soul.”

Angrily, I wiped away a tear that had fallen down my cheek. It had been a mistake telling her. She was Havoc’s old lady, and he was a patched member of the Savage Sons. Of course her loyalty was to them.

To the murderers.

“I thought you were my friend.”

“Iris.” She reached for me again. “I am your friend, but friends tell each other when they are wrong. And you are wrong. I know you are.”

I wanted to slap her, pull her hair and slam her face into the pavement. How could she be so blind? Was I the only person in the world who saw Cyber for what he really was? A psychopath with no feelings.

A heartless monster.

“Darcie?” The monster himself stood in the open doorway; his eyes narrowed as he stared at us. His eyes darted between us, and a frown furrowed his forehead. “Havoc wants you.”

Darcie nodded once. Taking off at a trot, she headed back to her man and the woman he called grandmother.

I followed her more slowly. I wanted to make sure Maggie was ok as well. She had been good to me, shown me more kindness than I had experienced in years.

When she lay bleeding and limp in my arms, I thought I had lost her.

I was tired of losing people I cared for.

Keeping my eyes lowered, I pushed past Cyber. I didn't want to touch him but I had no choice with the way he filled the doorway.

“Excuse me.”

“No.” He barked the word out, and his meaty hand wrapped around my wrist. For a second, I thought he was going to pull me into his body and wrap his arms around me. “I don’t know what the fuck is going on with you, Iris, but don’t I at least get a hello?”

Slowly, my eyes fell to the hand he was holding me with and then rose to his face.

“Don’t ever touch me again, Cyber. You do and I will cut off your balls and feed them to you.”

Maggie was goingto be ok, and that's what I should have been concentrating on, but I just couldn't stop thinking about Iris.
