He was worried about me. I knew that. Just as I knew that he didn't agree with the plan that me and Fang had cooked up. Not that any of that mattered. It was the only way I could see Iris and Violet ever having a normal life. A safe life.
Monster might not like it, but he would do what I had asked him to do. He would make sure they got away and had the means to start somewhere fresh. Somewhere far away from me and the past that would devour them if I let it.
To keep them safe, I needed to let them go and live normal, mundane lives.
Without looking back, I headed into the house.

Iris
The bednext to me was empty when I opened my eyes. My hand skimmed under the messed-up sheets. They were cold. No one had been sleeping next to me for a few hours at least. Panic gripped me.
I knew Cyber had crawled into bed next to me before the sun had come up. I had felt his heavy arm over me, the safe feeling I got in his arms making me drift back off to sleep almost instantly. And now they were both gone.
Violet was gone.
Had someone taken her again? Had I fallen asleep so soundly and so deeply that someone had been able to take her sleeping form from my arms?
Sitting upright so quickly that my vision blurred, I gagged.
“Easy baby.” Cyber was suddenly there, his big hands pushing my shoulders back down into the mattress. “What just happened?” His eyes searched my face; worry made the skin around his full lips tight. “You looked like you were going to pass out.”
Staring up at him, I tried to form words around the lump of panic in my throat.
As if he read my mind, Cyber leant over me, placing his heavily tattooed arms on either side of my shoulders. “Violet is downstairs. She's fine.” A smile curved his lips. “She's making pancakes with Monster.”
I sucked in a deep, steadying breath, forcing the panic I had felt back down. “Ok.”
Cyber’s eyes lingered on my mouth, and the heat in them was unmistakable.
He was going to kiss me again; I was sure of it. And I wanted him to. I wanted him to do more than kiss me. I wanted another taste of what he could do with those big hands of his.
“If you keep looking at me like that Iris…”
I didn't let him finish. Linking my hands behind his head, I pulled him down to me. My lips barely brushed his before he pulled away slightly.
“What was that for?” He didn’t give me a chance to answer. “Actually I don't care, and you can keep on looking at me however you want...” He kissed me again, his full lips capturing mine. “And kissing me whenever you want.” His warm breath tickled when he let out a contented sigh. “I don’t know what's got into you, but I like it.”
“I'm happy,” I said simply. Getting Violet back had shifted something in my mind. I felt stronger. Able to take on the whole world if I needed to. The hatred I had felt for Cyber, the hatred I had clung to for all those years, was gone. Not completely, but he had kept true to his promise. He had brought my daughter back to me.
And he knew she was his. He was stepping up, trying to be the dad she needed in her life. I knew how hard that must have been for him. How scared he must have felt at the sudden responsibility. But for now he was trying.
“Did you say Monster is making pancakes?” I moaned softly as Cyber's lips drifted from my mouth, over my jawline and down my throat.
“Trying to; they’ve been at it an hour already,” he mumbled against the pulse point in my throat. “So, I hope you're not hungry.”
“They’re cooking for me?” My head fell back, giving him more access to my throat.
“Violet wanted to make you breakfast in bed. I really hope you're not hungry because it might be lunch time before they get something edible on a plate.” He sucked hard at the sensitive skin just below my ear. “But that does give us some time...”
“Time to do what?”
Cyber’s low chuckle hit me straight between the legs. Oh, I knew what he wanted to spend the time doing; it was written on every line of his face. I could feel it pressing against my hip, long and mouth-wateringly thick. He didn't need to voice his intentions. I could feel them. Was I ready for that? I wanted to, but…
“More of this.” His fingers tilted my chin, his eyes searching my face before he lowered his head back down to mine. “Stay with me, Iris, right in this moment.”
His lips were so unbelievably soft. The only soft part of him.
