I shook my head before realising she couldn't see it. “Not going to happen. Now, get your boots.”

“I have to look after Maggie.”

“Stop making excuses, Iris. I'm taking you out.”

Iris

I expectedto be shoved on the back of Cyber’s bike. What I didn't expect was for him to take my hand gently in his and lead me across the garden. I glanced back at the house. It was my safe place. My lifeline.

Catching my worried look, Cyber’s steps slowed. “We aren't going far, Iris, you don't have to worry.”

“Where are we going?” If he thought he could come waltzing into Maggie's kitchen and just drag me anywhere he wanted, he had another thing coming, and I opened my mouth to tell him so.

Grumbling under his breath, Cyber spun me into his arms. My nose bumped into his chest, and tears sprang into my eyes.

“Jesus, woman, do you ever stop talking?” Roughly his fingers tilted my chin up. “Did you just hurt yourself?” His eyes softened, and the pad of his thumb brushed away the tears.

Mutely, I pointed at my nose.

“It's not broken.” Firm fingers probed gently, but it still sent shockwaves of pain through me.

I fought the urge to roll my eyes at him. It might not be broken, but it still hurt like hell.

“Where are you taking me?” I asked again, rubbing my thumb across the bridge of my nose. Why did his chest have to be so damn hard? It felt like smashing my face against a boulder. “And why do you have to be so hard?”

Throwing his head back, Cyber laughed. I couldn't help it, a blush crept up my cheeks. I glared at him. He was enjoying my embarrassment, the son of a bitch.

Scowling at him, I tried to pull away, which only made his arms tighten around me. A frown replaced the smile on his face.

“Talk about being childish.” I turned my head from him and his warm probing fingers. I didn’t know what had gotten into him, but it was making me uncomfortable. It was all so un-Cyber like.

“We are going for a walk. That's what couples do isn't it?”

“We aren't a couple,” I countered.

“Yeah, we are.” Looping an arm around my shoulders, he continued to walk, relaxed and at ease, like we were in fact a couple.

I blew out a breath. He was insufferable. That, on top of acting strange, was making me feel nervous. What was he up to? There wasn't a romantic bone in Cyber's huge body. So, why all of a sudden was he acting that way?

“Saying we are doesn't make it true,” I ground out.

Cyber groaned again, but this time, when he stopped, I was ready for it. Even so, he pulled me to his chest with enough force that it felt like my ribs were being crushed.

“Stop talking.” His lips came down hard on mine.

There was a moment where I froze in his arms, and then my lips opened under his. My arms came up to encircle his neck. The tip of his tongue brushed against mine, almost tentatively. Like he was testing the waters.

Greedily, I clutched at him. My tongue met his, hard, as I groaned into the minty freshness of his mouth. It was all he needed. With one hand cupping the back of my head, he plundered my mouth. His other hand came down to cup my ass, drawing me up on my tiptoes, so he could press me closer to his body.

When he pulled away, I was breathless. Pressing a hand to my throat, I blinked up at the smug smile that had spread across his face.

What the hell was I thinking? And what the hell was he doing kissing me like that? Making me feel things I never thought I would feel. Cyber was the enemy; he may not have killed my father, but he was still my enemy. I should not have been lusting after him the way I was.

“What's that you said about us not being a couple, Iris?” The grin on his face was knowing. Son of a bitch knew exactly the effect he had on me. And he was enjoying it.

“Kissing doesn't make us a couple.”
