If the Monk wanted to go to war over an omega then so be it. I would happily oblige him.

“Kaelan?” Zane’s feet had slowed, bringing us to a halt in front of a darkened doorway. A bright purple cross glowed above it. The only sign that something other than a home was behind that metal door.

“Yes, I am sure. She is mine.”

Mutely he stared at me. And then without a word he raised his hand and hammered on the metal with his closed fist.

Almost instantly a panel in the door opened. A pair of wide blue eyes peering out of us.

“Alpha Kaelan….” Zane didn’t get to finish.

“His holiness the Monk has been expecting you, Outlaw. You best come in out of the rain and follow me.”

“What is this place?” Zane asked from the corner of his mouth as we followed the slip of a woman down a dark hallway and into a much larger room. The walls were brick, but it was impossible to tell what colour they were with so many purple crosses glowing in the half-light.

My eyes scanned the room quickly. Taking it all in, in an instant. “Club,” I answered him quietly. It was the only thing that made sense. There were too many scantily dressed Omegas around. They lounged on plush sofas, talking and laughing amongst themselves.

Totally at ease.

“Or is this The Monks personal harem?” I asked the back of the woman I was following. With a laugh, she glanced over her shoulder. Her eyes taking me all in. The tip of a pink tongue appeared between her painted lips. “Not his holinesses Harem, but we have his seal of approval. Only the most prestigious of Alphas are welcome here. And we only have the most docile, most obedient of Omegas here. I am sure you will find someone that can ease your rut when it arrives.” She gave a tinkering laugh.

“This isn’t a club, it’s a damn brothel.” Zane paused, his eyes roving around the room. But it wasn’t disgust that made his voice sharp. It was lust. I couldn’t blame him for that. The scent of slick was thick in the air.

Under it though, under it, I could sense her. My sweet innocent Bree. There was no doubt in my mind that she was here. And she was afraid.

“Take me the Monk. I have no interest in these women….” There was only one omega I wanted. And she wasn’t in this room.

“His Holiness thought you might be interested in someone new. He has just the omega for you.” She winked. “Why doesn’t your friend have his fill here. He can not go into his holinesses inner sanctum.”

With a nod, I gave Zane my permission. He slunk off without a backwards glance. Whatever was about to happen, whatever game the Monk was playing I would face it alone.

With a flourish, the omega flung open a door. Stepping back so I could step into the smoke-filled room.

“Ah, the Outlaw is finally here.” His holiness the Monk called from his throne-like chair in the middle of the room. He was dressed all in purple like the kings of old. Around his feet, were women. A dozen or more Omega’s. All in various states on undress.

The only one that wasn’t, was the very person I was here to bring back.

Bree was laying almost prone at his feet. Her arms tight around her legs, keeping them tight against her chest. She was shaking with the force of her sobs.

Rage engulfed me, as I tore my eyes from her to meet his laughing ones. “If you have hurt her I will kill you.”

The smile on his face died. “She is to be my mate. I can do whatever I want with her. The question that needs answering is not what I have done to her but why the hell she stinks of your seed?”

Chapter Five

Bree

I ran to the only person I thought might be able to help me. My old nanny, the woman who had raised me after my mother’s premature death.

My father would know where I would go, but I was hoping that he wouldn’t tell Kaelan.

I knew that running was pointless. He would find me sooner or later. My only hope was to find some space to hide and wait out my estrus. If he found me when I was in heat he would mate me without hesitation.

He wouldn’t be able to help himself. The rut would consume him. Washing away any common decency he might have. I didn’t want to be taken like that.

Kaelan would claim me if he found me. I wasn’t even running from that. It was the fact that he had made me feel things I had never expected to feel. It was more than the burning need, that always hit me in my heat. It was something wild.
