Slowly my brother nodded. His lips opened and then shut again, he swiped at them both nervously with his tongue. He wanted to say something. Something he was worried about. I had seen that look on his face a lot growing up.
“Spit it out.” I flung out my legs. Crossing my booted feet at the ankle, as I stared at him. Instead of opening his mouth like I expected him too, he shook his head. “Another time.”
“So why are we here? I have better things to do.” Namely getting balls deep in Cali. “I thought Ruin got bail?”
Fender paused. “He did. That isn’t the problem,”
Our president’s voice was emotionless like he was talking about a random brother and not his eldest son. Then again, there was only one child, Fender put on a pedestal. His youngest daughter Chelsea. Club princess and ultimate spoiled brat.
“The problem is this …..”
I finished for him. “Informant we have in our midst.”
Everyone nodded. “What have you found out.”
Leaning back, I let my eyes meet his. “Not a lot. Everyone is clean. One of the prospects has a distant cousin on the force, but we knew about that. I don’t think it’s anyone in the club.” I gave a shrug. “At least not that I can see anyway. I will keep digging, though.”
“Have you started looking at the women?”
Wicked’s voice took me by surprise. My head snapped towards him. “The women? You want me to dig into the club girls? Most don’t even use their real names. It might take me a while.”
Fenders eyes narrowed. “All the women Truth.”
All the women? He was talking about hard searches on the old ladies of the club, of the mothers and daughters. “Does that include your own?”
Fenders dark brows slammed down. “All of them. I want the truth.”
I nodded “I can do that.”
“That includes your old lady Truth.” Wicked’s voice was harsh, and I turned to him with a snarl. “Cali has been in town a few days, and she isn’t my old lady.” Not yet anyway I added silently.
“Everyone gets checked out Truth, no exceptions.”
“No exceptions.” I echoed.
Chapter Thirteen
Cali
This was crazy, absolutely crazy but hadn’t I wanted to live a little on the wild side? And being with Truth was definitely living on the wild side. The fact that he was insanely hot and blew my mind out of the top of my head in bed was an added bonus.
It couldn’t last forever, I knew that and I was ok with it. A fling, a few weeks of letting loose and living wild and then I could go back to my boring, mundane life.
I was owed some time off, and even if I wasn’t, I was sure they could cope in the office without me. It wasn’t like I was important there.
I flopped back on the small double bed, letting my eyes wander around the room. It was sparse, almost threadbare, but at least it was clean. But there was absolutely nothing to do. I didn’t have my bags with me, all I had was my phone.
Pulling it from my jacket, I flopped back down. I did have something I needed to do. It wasn’t particularly fun, but it needed to be done.
“Hey.” The deep male voice answered on the third ring. “Are you almost home, there’s….”
It was just like him to skip the pleasantries. “I need some time off, a few weeks.”
His sigh was loud. “Cali…”
“I haven’t taken a paid holiday since I started Curtis, I’m sure you can spare me for a little while. I’ve ….”
“Where are you?”
