“Truth has told her he has something important to ask her.” Gemma’s voice was loud as she stepped back up to us. Wiping her hands on her jeans.
“What?” YB turned to me in shock. “He said that? Whoa. What are you going to say? Are you going to say yes?”
I shot a glance at Gemma at the sound of his excited voice. She rolled her eyes with a smile. “Young, you are such a woman sometimes.”
Wasn’t that the truth.
“But what are you going to say?”
I scowled at my friend. “I don’t even know what he is going to ask me yet guys.” The way they were both acting was like… realisation hit me. No way. He wouldn’t ask me THAT? Would he? It was way too soon for that, surely?
“You don’t think he is going to ask me to marry him, do you?” My voice was small. Surely he wouldn’t? I liked him. Liked him a lot. But we weren’t at a getting married stage in our relationship.
YB spluttered into laughter. Great big belly laughs. I felt embarrassed, almost instantly. It was stupid. Of course, he wasn’t going to ask me to marry him. It was stupid. I didn’t even know why I had brought it up.
“No Cali.” Gem schooled her face into something serious, but she couldn’t keep the glint of laughter out of her eyes. “He’s not going to ask you to marry him. At least I don’t think so.”
“He’s going to ask you to wear his patch.”
I turned to Young Blood. “His patch?” I asked dumbly. What the hell were they going on about this time?
“His property patch Cali,” YB said patiently. As if he was talking to a child.
“Is that important?”
“Yes, Cali. It's important. It means he wants you to be his old lady. He wants you to stay.”
“Stay?” I squeaked.
“Yeah, Cali Stay… so what are you going to say?”
Both of them were watching me closely. Their eyes strained on my face as they waited for me to answer.
“I don’t know.”
Young Blood made an exasperated sound in the back of his throat. “That’s not good.”
Why wasn’t it good? Why couldn’t me and Truth just carry on the way we were? Why did things have to change? Even when I finally went home to my life, it didn’t mean things had to change. I could still come and visit him, and he could come to me.
Nothing had to change.
Except he was going to ask me to be his. And that was life-changing. I might not like the idea of being someone’s property, but I understood the symbolism of it. At least I hoped it was symbolic.
“Cali?”
“I would say yes.” As soon as the words were out of my mouth, I realised how true they were. I wanted to be with him.
Gemma squealed. “I am so happy for you. Oh my god.” She hugged me over the bar, and I hugged her back self consciously. “ this is so exciting.”
Yeah, it was.
Exciting and scary.
Was I actually thinking of leaving my entire life behind? Family, friends and a career that was on the fast track? All to run off and be the property of a hot ass biker?
It was crazy.
I didn’t even know his real name.
