“Truth?” Gents eyes were the widest of the lot. He seemed genuinely shocked. But he hid it well as he climbed to his feet. Coming towards us with a massive smile on his face. “Cali love.” He bent with his hands on her narrow shoulders.”Its good to see you again.” His eyes dived over her in a way I hated. “And a blonde? It suits you.”

“The pink was a….” Cali faltered. She was uncomfortable, I could tell. And I couldn’t blame her. I would have been as well in her position. “Blonde is my natural colour.” She gave the smallest of shrugs under my arm. “Kind of.”

“It looks good on you.” Gents eyes raised to mine for a second, the question was in them as clear as day.

They all had questions, and I would have to answer them sooner rather than later, but that time wasn’t now.

“So who is this pretty little thing?” Fenders voice came from behind me. A deep gravelly sound that had Cali tense under my arms.

The Black Aces President had that effect on most people. Myself included when I had first met him.

Keeping her tight to my side, I turned to him. “Fender.” I nodded my greeting at him. Meeting his eyes without blinking.

“Truth.” He didn’t look at me. Instead, his eyes took in the woman by my side. From the short blonde hair right down to her trainers. “And this is?”

“Cali.” She spoke before I could even open my mouth. Thrusting out her hand. For a second, the older man just stared at it. His head cocked to the side like it was some kind of alien appendage. “Nice to meet you, Cali.” Finally, he took it, but he barely touched her. There was a look on his face that I couldn’t fathom.

A hint of recognition.

But it was gone in a blink of an eye.

Still, it was puzzling. “You as well Mr…”

“Just Fender.” He growled. “Can I have a word in private Truth?”

The smile slipped from my face. I knew the “talk” would have to happen, but I had been hoping for at least a few hours with Cali alone first.

How was it fair that every other fucker in this damn club could get laid without interruption but me?

“Of course.” I glanced down at Cali. She was trying not to look like she was listening. “Can I….”

Fenders eyebrows slammed down. “Maybe she would be more comfortable at your place?” He was trying to get her out of the clubhouse. I just wasn’t sure why.

“Wicked is there.”

“Having an orgy.” She added in her soft voice, and I turned to her in shock. The corners of Fender's mouth quirked up at the corners. “Take Cali up to one of the rooms. Your usual one should be free. I’m sure she wants to relax a while.”

“I’m ….” Cali opened her mouth to speak but shut it again when I sent her a look. “That would be great thank you. I have some calls to make if I am going to stay for a while.”

“She’s staying?” I didn’t understand the animosity in his voice or why he was asking me and not her.

“For a while.” She said again.

“See you back down here in half-hour Truth.” Fenders eyes fell on me. I could feel the weight of them. “Nice to meet you, Cali.” He said as an afterthought.

For a second, I watched him walk away, before turning to her with a smile. “That was awkward.”

Cali’s smooth face was troubled. “I don’t think he likes me very much.” She sounded unsure.

“What’s there not to like?” Bending I kissed her lips. I couldn’t shake the fact that maybe she was right, though. It had seemed like Fender didn’t like her. “Come on, let me show you where you can chill out whilst I have this meeting.”

“I could just go back to Gems?”

“Not a chance. I can’t be sure you won’t get on a damn bus out of town.”

“What’s this all about?” I let my eyes meet every single pair of eyes around the room. “Ruin made bail, right?”
