She didn’t turn, just stood there shivering with her arms crossed about her chest. I slipped the coat over the top of her own. My arms coming to hug from her behind and close the heavy material about her.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered it into her hair. “I didn’t mean to act like as twat to you Cali.”

“It’s ok.”

“No, it’s not.” I kissed the top of her rain-soaked blonde hair. It was strange seeing her as a blonde, but I liked it. It gave her a sleeker look. Less edgy but still sexy as hell. “I would like to see you again before you leave Cali. If that’s ok with you?”

“That’s ok with me.” She turned in my arms just as her taxi pulled up on the curb. Reaching up on tiptoes to press her mouth to mine. “Later then?”

“Later.” I pressed her against me for a second before stepping backwards. “Most definitely later.”

“Your jacket?”

“Keep it. I can grab it from you later.” I smiled at her. Or maybe you should keep it. I added silently. Maybe you should wear it every damn day and let the world know who you belonged too... I kind of liked the way it swamped her body.

I liked her wearing my colours.

Chapter Eleven

Cali

“Sweetheart.” Gems voice brought me back to myself. “If he’s not here by now, he’s not coming.” Her voice was wary. Like she didn’t know how I would take it. I knew what I must look like to her, as I stared out through the dark window.

I looked like one of those sad women. The kind that pined after a man who she knew was just playing her. I wanted to tell her it wasn’t like that. That I had some self-respect. But what would be the point? True I was leaving in the morning, but I had been looking forward to seeing him one last time. To fooling around with him one last time.

Truth was officially the best sex I had ever had. I wasn’t even sure any other men were going to live up to him.

“I know.” I gave her a smile. It was forced, but I made my lips move. “I'm leaving tomorrow anyway.”

Gem studied me. Her head cocked to the side. “I told you not to get too attached….” she trailed off.

“I didn’t.” Instantly I went on the defensive. It was a stupid thing to do, the knowing smile on her face only, grew. “Yeah, you did. I know that look, Cali…. it’s an I’ve just been fucked with an inch of heaven, and I want to do it again look.”

I laughed, snorting towards the end, which only made me laugh more. “You got that right.” I saluted her with my coffee mug.

“I’ve heard he’s dynamite in the sack.”

“You haven’t?” I studied her. Did I really want to know the answer to that question? What would I do if she said they had been intimate? I liked Gemma.

“No. God no. Not with Truth.” She seemed honestly disgusted by the prospect. “But I’ve heard stories.”

“Stories huh?” I had already heard that he had a bit of a reputation. “Well, they are all false.”

Gem meant forward, her eyes widening. “He’s not good in bed?”

“Oh, he’s good.” I giggled taking a long pull from the bottle in my hand. “I mean the stories can’t possibly tell you, how fucking great in bed he is. So don’t blame a girl for wanting to have another taste before she leaves.”

Gem grinned. “You could stay, you know. My couch is your couch, and you are welcome here anytime.”

“Gem you are officially the sweetest but I can’t. I have work and anyway.” I let our eyes meet. “You shouldn’t go offering to put people up that you don’t know. You know nothing about me. I could be a serial killer or something.”

“Are you?” She didn’t let me answer. “I don’t care about your job Cali. That’s the beauty of his town. We can be whoever we want to be. Our pasts don’t define our future.”

“You think I should stay? For Truth?”

“No. Well, maybe yes. You like him, and he clearly likes you. What do you have to lose by staying a few weeks? Worst case scenario you lose interest and can go home then. It’s something to think about at least.”

Yeah, it was something to think about. “I have work and a life to get back to Gem. But maybe I can revisit you?”
