“Yeah, it’s right.” My phone vibrated again. And I groaned. “I have to go but tonight Cali. Don’t make me come and find you again?”

“I’ll try.”

“No trying Cali. You will be there.” My lips hovered over hers, and her almond-shaped eyes fluttered closed.

She wanted me to kiss her. And I would.

Just not yet.

“This best be fucking important?” I didn’t bother with pleasantries as I flung myself into one of the few spare seats around the table.

“Glad you could join us asshole.” Ruin didn’t look up from his phone, and you didn’t need to be psychic to know who he was texting.

“Leave the kid alone, he’s met a girl.” My brother Wicked laughed loudly. I scowled at him.

“Is that right?” Ruin grinned at me. “The girl from last night? I thought Gent took her and Gem home?” He didn’t even try and keep the innuendo out of his voice.

How such a nice woman like his old lady Avery had ended up falling in love with an asshole like him, I didn’t know. They had history, lots of history and an almost teenage son but she was too lovely for him. Although I doubted, he acted like a dick in front of her.

“Don’t even go there, brother.” I wasn’t in the mood for their teasing. Not today. Every minute I spent here with them was one less minute I had seducing Cali. “Why the hell am I here?”

The mood in the room sobered almost instantly. I shot a glance around the room.

“We have a problem,” Wickeds spoke softly. “Our last shipment just got picked up.”

Well, now that was a problem. A very big problem.

“We think we have an informant in our club, someone with inside knowledge.”

My eyebrows disappeared into my hairline. They were talking like one of our club brothers was feeding the police information. Something I just couldn’t bring myself to believe.

“We need you to find out who it is.”

Of course, they did. And then I would be adding a new tattoo.

Crooks was packed when I finally arrived. Pushing my way through the crowd that thronged the doorway, I ignored the chorus of hellos that floated my way. I didn’t want to see any of them assholes.

There was only one person I was here to see and I couldn’t spot her bright hair anywhere.

Dammit.

Had she not come? I had been sure she would. Almost one hundred per cent sure. Cali was just as interested in me as I was in her.

Gem was behind the bar, and for a second, her eyes rose to meet mine. She shook her head before raising her hand and giving me a wave.

Gemma would know where Cali was, they were kind of roommates after all.

Using my elbow, I shoved my way towards the bar, “Gem?”

“Hey, Truth.” She didn’t turn to me fully as she slid two overflowing pint glasses across the scarred wood. “What can I get you?”

She knew what I drank. No one in Cooks would have to ask. There was the smallest of smiles playing at the corner of her painted lips. She was playing with me. She knew I was here to meet Cali and was playing it cool.

“Where’s Cali?”
