Reggie started toward the back, but being Rj’s mother and feeling as guilty as I did, I knew I had to make the best decision for him, and fast. Holding back or not saying anything could cost my baby his life.
“Doctor, wait a minute,” I said.
“If neither one of us has his blood type, then I think I know someone else who might.”
“Who is it, Jasmine? Do we need to call them up here now?” Reggie asked in a rush.
“I don’t have to call him,” I said, my voice quieter now because the words I was about to say I never thought would leave my lips.
“I don’t have to call him because he’s already here.”
“Who is it, Jas?” Pernelle helped them press me.
The words got stuck in my throat, but I knew I had no time to waste. Truth was, I’d always had my suspicions, but now, Ineeded the truth. The truth could save my son’s life. It could save my life, too, because losing him would make me lose myself.
I turned over my shoulder and looked behind me.
“Hov, can you please come to the back with us? I think your blood should be tested too.”
To be continued.
