“Start new. New name, new identity, new life.”
“With you?”
I snort. “Of course, with me.”
“How is that going to work?”
“I’ll quit the agency.”
Dove’s head pops up off my chest. “Tate, are you crazy? You can’t quit your job.”
“Sure, I can. I’ll find a new job. In some small town at the local police department where I bust teenagers on a Saturday night for underage drinking and patrol the county fair.”
Dove curls her lip. “You are going to go from badass undercover agent to small-town cop? You’d be bored to tears.”
“Will not. It’s always been my plan. To retire to a small town and join the force. I’m just doing it a little sooner now, and I have someone to do it with. You really think I'm a badass?” I grin.
“Well, I’m a bigger badass, but you can hold your own.”
“I knew I had you in the woods.” I’m cocky.
“You didn’t have shit.” Dove lays back down. Her skin is warm against mine, which causes a rash of goosebumps to breakout on my arms.
She runs her fingernails over my raised flesh, tickling me.
“Stop that.” I grab her hand and kiss her fingers.
“I like the way your body reacts to me.”
“I like it, too.”
“Are you sure you want this?” she wonders contemplatively.
“Want what, you? Of course, I do.”
“I don’t want you to have any regrets. A lot of things are changing way too fast. I don’t want you to be caught in the moment.”
“Darlin’, I was caught in the moment the minute I met you.” I twine our fingers together. “There’s no regrets.”
“Don’t call me darlin’.” Dove smirks sweetly. She can be so guileless when she wants to. So many layers, so many sides, all of which I love.
“I can’t make any promises.” I roll over and pull her into my arms. “But this” — I squeeze her tight — “I can do for the rest of my life.”
Dove hugs me back. “I think I can, too.”

I wakeup to the obnoxious sound of my cell phone ringing. I grab it off the floor and see Taylor’s name flashing.
“Fuck,” I groan sleepily as I swipe to answer it.
“You up, pretty boy?” His words are light, but his tone doesn’t match.
“I am now.”
“We got a situation. Need you to see something.”
“I’ll be right there.”
