I want to get out of my seat and rip their headphones off, but I also don’t want to make matters worse, so I stay put, my eyes tracking across the aisle to Devon and Warrick who are playing cards, and then up front to Griffin as he cuts a line of white powder on a small table before offering my mum a rolled note to take a hit.
Fuck… I hate seeing her do that, but I know she needs small hits until she gets into treatment.
Barrett stands from his seat, which is behind the twins, his jacket off, black shirt unbuttoned a little and sleeves rolled up. He kinda looks like how I’m dressed now, in clothes he purchased for me, telling me I need to try to fit the mould of a Marx man.
Fuck if I know what that means, but these mafia men have style, and I can’t say I hate the way I’m dressed. Especially with the way Lily had been eye fucking me when I stepped out of the bedroom this morning.
She may have dropped to her knees and given my cock a good hard suck until I came down her throat.
Fuck, that thought has me grinning.
When Barrett goes to move past us, heading to the back where there’s a private room and toilet, he stops, glaring at the twins who still have their eyes closed, and growls.
“For fuck’s sake,” he mutters, reaching over to pluck off their headphones, making them both gasp in surprise. “Talk to your mother and be fucking respectful. Marx men don’t fucking sulk and don’t treat their mothers poorly.”
Jude’s lips part to protest, but Barrett bares his teeth. “Or you want to try skydiving… without a fucking shute?”
Ronnie is the first one to sigh, dragging his eyes from their uncle to us, pain evident in his stare. He swallows, his Adam’s apple rolling like he’s trying to clear a lump, and fuck, I wish I could read his mind.
A moment later, Jude joins him, his eyes hard, his nostrils flaring as he fights to control his rage, directed right at me.
“Stop glaring at Asher,” Lily snaps, gaining their attention. “Be mad at me,nothim.”
Jude scoffs. “He fucked our mum. As if we aren’t going to be mad athim.”
“Correction,” Lily snaps. “I fuckedyourbest friend. Now grow the fuck up and let’s talk about it.”
The twins’ mouths drop open at their mum’s no nonsense tone, something they don’t hear often, and Barrett sighs, strolling off to the rear of the plane.
We are all quiet for a moment, and I notice Jude’s eyes locked onto where my fingers are weaved with Lily’s. He’s the first to break the silence, scoffing before he speaks.
“Is thisreallya thing? You andhim?” He gestures his head in my direction and Lily nods.
“Yes.”
Jude grunts his disapproval, and I can’t fucking hold back, leaning forward in my seat.
“I’m not going to apologise for loving Lily,” I say firmly, trying hard to keep my anger at bay, because fuck, if one of them was sitting with my mum and holding her hand, I’d be fuckinglivid, so I get it. “But Iamsorry I kept it from you. I know it seems messed up to you, but to us, it feels right.”
Lily lifts our joined hands, pressing her lips to the back of mine and offering me a warm smile.
Fuck. She has no idea what she does to me.
“I’m gonna need time to stop imagining you railing my mum,” Ronan snaps, abruptly crossing his arms over his chest, and Jude turns his glare to his brother.
“Don’t fucking say that. I don’t need that mental image.”
“Trust me, it’s not something I’ll ever forget,” Barrett adds unhelpfully as he walks back past, and the twins’ faces twist with a cringe as Lily’s face burns red.
Ignoring Barrett, I keep my focus on the twins. My best mates. The two brats who took me under their wing, even though I was older than them. I fucking miss them. I’ve been so wrapped up in winning Lily’s heart that I’ve kinda pushed them aside.
“Any chance we could catch up for a drink sometime soon? You know… once we’ve settled in?” I ask them, and while Ronan’s eyes flare with something that looks like relief, Jude’s remain hard.
“Yeah. Sounds good.” Ronan nods, and Jude sighs.
“What the fuck are we gonna talk about?” He slaps his twin’s shoulder. “We can’t exactly talk about lassies with him now.”
“I’d like to think our friendship is more than talking smack,” I add, and I feel Lily give my hand an approving squeeze.
