I force the words back down.

Not yet.

“I’m glad you like my surprises,” I whisper instead.

“I hope you like the surprises I’ve had for you too, because I have another one for you tomorrow.”

“Oh yeah?”

“Yup. I’m taking you somewhere secret tomorrow.”

Butterflies and a quick thrill shoot through me.

“I can’t wait,” I whisper, nestling my head into his chest. After a while, his soft breaths lull me to sleep while my dreams take guesses at his surprise.

Chapter Nineteen.

Given the horrible circumstances of why I’m at Ben’s initially, it feels amazing to wake up next to him without worrying about hiding. We take our time waking up and lay there enjoying each other, stroking each other’s backs and kissing softly and lazily like we have all the time in the world. Eventually, we can’t hide the hunger grumbling in our stomachs and venture out for some breakfast.

My curiosity about the surprise for the day gets the better of me. I can’t help but try to get him to slip up and tell me his plans.

Any chance I get, I ask him what we’re doing or offer up a massage in exchange for any hint of what the evening might hold. He’s a stone wall, never breaking no matter how much I pound against it. Even the pouty-face he calls irresistible doesn’t work, although it does get me extra kisses.

“You ready?” he walks up smiling.

“It’s time?” I bob excitedly.

“Yes, but please put down those wire cutters when you’re jumping,” he laughs.

Oops.

I forgot I was holding them. His dad recruited me to help him cut old fencing so they could take the posts out and expand the field with new ones.

“I’ll text you the address to meet me at.”

“We’re not going together?”

“No. You’re going to meet me there.” His eyes shine with mischief as his eyebrows bounce up and down playfully.

What’s he planning that requires us to drive separately?

He pulls his phone out of his back pocket and types something. A second later, my phone vibrates.

“Eight o’clock? But that’s so far away!” I cross my arms and pout, pushing my bottom lip out. “Plus, having me park on some random stone drive and walk? You’re not going to murder me, are you?”

“Why on earth would I murder you? If I did that, I’d have no one to pick on whenever I wanted.”

I stick my tongue out at him, dramatically. He blows me a kiss and winks, walking away from me up to the house.

“See you then, babe!”

His tight jeans accentuate his perfect ass, sticking to him like glue with each step.

Damn. I’m one hundred percent going to bite into that later.

By the time Koa and I finish working on the fence, Ben’s already back outside.

I’m too tired to find more work to do so I have a quick bite to eat, shower and pick out my hairstyle and outfit for the surprise.
