Ricki still wasn’t comfortable in front of the camera, but she was doing more of it to further their business. People seemed to love watching them create room designs. Blythe called it the geekiest content on TikTok, but she was their biggest supporter.

Abby remained in her position at the library, not because she had to, but because she wanted to. With her newfound confidence, she wasn’t done battling the Heartland Family Alliance, and so far, she’d been successful. Still, she’d cut back when the board agreed to let her and Madeline do a job share, which meant she only worked three days a week. The rest of her time she spent helping Ricki with their business.

“Do you have another gear in you?” Ricki asked.

Abby glanced at her with a twinkle in her eye and then broke into a sprint. “The last one home has to make dinner,” Abby called over her shoulder.

Ricki laughed and chased after Abby.

Abby readied the computer for their FaceTime with Blythe. Her cheeks were still ruddy from their run, and Ricki’s hair was still wet with sweat. Ricki grinned. It would give Blythe plenty of ammo.

“How much time do we have?” Abby asked.

“About two minutes.” Ricki slid into the chair beside Abby.

Abby tapped her cheeks. “I still feel flushed.”

“Maybe Blythe will be so excited about the awards, she won’t notice.”

Abby snorted. “Right. It’s Blythe.”

As Ricki was nodding, her best friend’s face filled the computer screen.

“Hey!” Blythe said. “Jesus, couldn’t you two have waited to have sex until we were done talking?”

Ricki exchanged a quick glance with Abby, and they both laughed.

Dapper’s face appeared over Blythe’s shoulder. “Good thing we get the job done quick, so nobody knows what we’re up to.”

“Truer words,” Blythe added.

“Enough about your sex life,” Abby said.

Blythe made a face. “Fine. Oh, hey. Sweet Cyn called us last night to wish us luck.”

“How’s she doing?” Ricki asked.

After her breakdown, Cyn had given up content creating, but she still stayed in contact with Blythe.

“Great, she’s engaged to one of her coworkers.”

“See, there is life after content creating,” Abby said with a smirk.

Dapper held up her fingers in the shape of a cross. “Take back your evil words.”

They all laughed.

“What’s it like in L.A.?” Ricki asked.

Blythe’s face disappeared as the camera panned the crowd gathering outside The Novo. “This place is amazing,” Blythe said. “Can you guys see over there? It’s X…uh, I mean Winnie. Hold on.”

The camera jiggled, making Ricki feel motion sick, so she looked away.

“Hold on,” Blythe said.

“Winnie.” Abby waved frantically.

Ricki finally glanced up at a smiling Winnie looking back at them.
