Abby grinned. “That you were the one disrespecting me, not her.”
“Fuck. You nailed it.”
“She’s one of a kind.”
“That she is.” Ricki gave Abby a hopeful look. “Do you think you’ll be comfortable being around her again?”
Abby took a moment, though she knew her answer. She wanted Ricki to see that she was thinking it over. “I’d like nothing more than to spend time with the two of you. I’ve missed it.”
Ricki held up her finger. “Uh, there is one thing, though.”
“What?” Abby tried to hide her concern.
“I don’t share.”
Abby laughed and hugged Ricki. “Neither do I.”
CHAPTER 42
“I could have drivenmyself,” Abby said as Ricki held the car door open for her.
Once Abby climbed into the passenger seat, Ricki closed the door behind her and trotted around to the driver’s side.
Ricki slipped into the car. “And I told you, it wouldn’t happen. I want to make sure you’re relaxed and comfortable for this. And there’s nothing relaxing or comfortable about rush hour traffic.”
As Ricki reached for the ignition switch, Abby caught Ricki’s hand and brought it to her lips. She kissed the back of Ricki’s hand and then turned it over and kissed her palm.
Ricki groaned. “Woman, you can’t do that, or we’ll never get on the road.”
Abby chuckled. “Maybe we should go inside, and you can relax me further.”
Abby was just playing with Ricki. Since as soon as Ricki arrived at Abby’s house, she’d pulled Ricki into the bedroom. After all, they hadn’t seen each other since last weekend.
“Seriously? You’re insatiable. Did you forget what we just did?”
“But it was a quickie.” Abby put a whine in her voice.
“Only you. Since when is an hour a quickie?”
“You’ve spoiled me.” It was true. Abby had finally gotten the romance novel sex she’d craved. The past two weekends, they’d spent more time in bed than out.
“So I’ve created this monster?”
“Uh-huh.” Abby licked her lips and grinned. “Are you tiring of me already?”
Ricki put her hand against Abby’s cheek and gazed into her eyes. “Never. I love you, Abby Wilder. More than I ever thought I could love anyone.”
Abby’s heart soared. “And I love you.” She leaned over the console, and her lips met Ricki’s. They kissed for several minutes before Abby broke their kiss.
“I still can’t wrap my mind around this.” Tears filled Abby’s eyes.
“Hey, what’s the matter?”
“I’ve never felt so loved. So cared for. You treat me like a princess.” She struggled to believe that Ricki had driven to Harveston only to turn around to take Abby back to Berwyn.
Ricki grinned. “You’re my princess librarian.”
Abby laughed, but then she turned serious. “But you give so much. I’ll never measure up.”
