If someone had told her six months ago that she would be engaged to a famous athlete, on her way toward ownership of Northern Exposure, and helping Jaylen with an accelerated learning plan, she would have called them a liar. After a host of struggles, life was good. Xavier was her pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
“I’m the luckiest man in Alaska. I wanted you from the moment you served me those fireball wings,” Xavier said.
True threw back her head and chuckled. “You’re never going to let me live that down, are you?”
Xavier dipped his head down and placed a tender kiss on the side of her neck. “It’s something we can tell our kids someday.”
“Talk about making a lasting impression,” True murmured. “I’m glad you didn’t write me off after that.”
“Not a chance,” he said, placing his arms around her waist and pulling her flush against him. “From the start you made me feel things I wasn’t used to feeling. You restored my faith in love.”
“Ditto,” True said, her heart near to bursting at the way inwhich everything was coming together. She had never imagined herself as the happily-ever-after type. But Xavier had proved her wrong simply by loving her.
The future was theirs for the taking, full of promise and joy. And so many adventures with both of their families. They would support and love Hattie for the rest of her days as a family. There would be no looking back now, only forward.
