“I suppose that means the conversation with your father went well?” she asked with a grin.
Finch straightened but did not release his hold on her. Locking his hands at the small of her back, he gave her a wide smile, though he shook his head. “It went as expected.”
“And that makes you happy?” she asked with a quirk of her brow.
Leaning in to kiss her cheek, he whispered, “Youmake me happy.”
Felicity’s hands rose to his chest, and Finch counted the hours until the wedding. They ought to have eloped.
“But,” he continued, “I am happy to report that I defended myself.”
He hadn’t thought it possible, but Felicity’s grin widened even further, filling her whole being with radiance. “You did?”
With succinct words, he relayed the conversation, his heart growing lighter as he recalled his part in it, and his joy mirrored in Felicity’s expression. Before he could even finish, she closed the distance, capturing his lips with eagerness.
Finch wouldn’t say it aloud. Not now. He knew Felicity would not accept it. But the truth of the matter was that his father had been correct. The best thing Finch had ever done was to win the heart of this dear lady. What finer accomplishment could he claim than securing this incredible lady as his wife? And that joy would only grow as their family expanded.
Husband and father. Surely no man could ask for greater or more important roles.

Tears gathered in Felicity’s eyes, not tinged with sorrow but born of a heart fit to burst. The past months had wrought such changes in Lewis, and she only wished there was some better or grander manner in which to express her pride and joy in witnessing it. Though Lewis claimed it was she who lit his world, Felicity knew he had blessed her life in equal measure.
“Lewis Finch,” she murmured. “The jack of all trades, and master of my heart.”
A broad grin stretched across his face as he shook his head. “That is a terrible pun, Felicity.”
“Yes, but it made you smile.” Leaning forward, she rested her head on his shoulder.
Lewis’s chest rumbled with a chuckle, his arms holding her tight.
Her Lewis. Her love. Her husband-to-be. Wrapped in his embrace, she was awed to know that this was just the beginning of their life together, and there was so much more to come. Years stretched before them, and Felicity knew they’d be filled with the sort of joy and warmth that grew exponentially, turning two cold, lonely lives into one eternal summer.
