He groaned.

“—we’ll jump into your new Silverado and head over the mountains to Gatlinburg, where we’ll cozy up for three glorious nights in our honeymoon chalet.”

A little smile played around his mouth as his arms tightened around her. “That was such an awesome idea.”

“It wasyouridea. So was this.” She drifted her gaze over the small crowd of close friends and family. Over the photos of their parents on a memorial table they’d set up. “One of your better ones, I’ll admit.”

In a tradition that was old to the Robinsons but new to Charlotte, she and Gunner had said their vows in the Robinsons’ backyard under the shade of a gilded oak tree. Emerson served asher maid of honor, and Wes stood up for Gunner in the simple ceremony.

“Did I mention how beautiful you are tonight?”

“Several times.” Though his expression when he’d first seen her had said it all. She ran her hand down his lapel. “And you, my love, are a very handsome groom.”

The song was winding down and the father-daughter dance was next. Charlotte’s gaze caught on Craig, where he sat watching from a table with Gavin, Laurel, Cooper, Katie, and the kids. It would be premature to say her brothers’ relationship with their father had been repaired. But they were all making a tenuous effort. And Craig, now almost two years sober, had been careful not to push them. Charlotte was proud of them all.

The last of the lyrics trickled out, and the melody’s final strains hung in the air as the clinking of glassware rang across the yard.

Gunner’s eyes twinkled at her. “Looks like I’m gonna get my way after all, Mrs.Dawson.” He leaned down and pressed his lips to hers, instantly sweeping her away. But since they had an audience, the kiss was far shorter than either of them would’ve liked.

When he drew away to raucous applause, he whispered in her ear, “To be continued.”
