True love is real

I found it, it’s true

Finally, I found you

And then I nearly lost you

Finally, I found you

And you found me too

Patrick steps up next to me while I play the last few chords. He takes my guitar and I get down on one knee.

“Becca, I think we can both agree that I am an idiot.” The crowd laughs at my admission. “But I’m an idiot who loves you with everything I am. I still think that you’re too good for me, but there’s no way I can live without you by my side. Becca, will you marry me?”

Becca is silent. The crowd hushes to a murmur.

Shit. Did I make a critical error? Is this too soon? My breath quickens and I can feel myself start to panic.

“Yes, Johnny. I will marry you.”

The crowd goes crazy. Applause, cheers, whistles. And it’s better than any concert I’ve ever played.

“Oh, thank god.” I breathe out and jump to my feet. I take the ring out of the box and slide it onto her finger. It’s a vintage emerald in a bezel setting. “Do you like it?”

“I love it,” she says, throwing her arms around me. “I love you.”

“I love you,” I say, kissing her.

“Well, wasn’t that nice?” Patrick comes up behind us, Silas walking behind him. “Who’s ready for another surprise?”

The crowd bursts into cheers and applause.

“Well, then. Let me introduce you to another special guest, here to do a personal favour for us, please put your hands together for… Elvis!”

Silas leans over and whispers into Patrick’s theatrically.

“Oh, thank goodness. Ladies and gentlemen, I was mistaken. Please let me introduce Elvis Herselvis, legendary performer and drag king, here to marry these two crazy kids.” Silas whispers again. “Oh, yes. Marry these two kids to each other, not to Herselvis.”

Laughs and cheers and applause meet the announcement.

I lean in and whisper to Becca, ‘What do you say? Will you marry me right now?”

“Let’s do it,” she says with a grin. “When in Vegas get married in your dad’s drag club. That’s how that saying goes, right?”

“Sound perfect to me,” I say, kissing her softly.
