“I’m thinking of naming them after Roman gods.”
“No, we should name them Lettuce and Tomato and Okra,” I said as we walked hand in hand down the terrace steps.
Blade frowned. “That seems disrespectful. These are nice rabbits from good families, not vacant-lot rabbits.”
“You love Cesario,” I teased him.
Mr. and Mrs. Schultz were the first people to come congratulate us. “Seems you figured it out after all,” Chuck said, shaking Blade’s hand.
“I hope you don’t spend all your time on the wedding venue,” Mrs. Schultz said, kissing me on the cheek. “We’re hoping you’ll assist Blade on the execution of the contract with our firm.”
My mouth dropped open. “I thought you lost that.”
“Yes, I thought I did too,” Blade said with a frown. “I don’t need it, if you’re doing it out of pity. We were awarded the Honest Pet Company contract.”
“Hardly,” Mrs. Schultz said tartly. “While what you did was despicable, I know of someone else who’s done something similar in his day.” She glanced at her husband. “However, at the end of the day, the Holbrooks snitched, and quite publicly too. You have to ask yourself, can you really trust someone like that, especially in the finance industry?”
“I told you,” Chuck said. “She’s a shark.”
“Drink?” Shirley offered, wrapping me in a hug. Edward was glowering over her shoulder.
“I promise,” Blade swore to Edward, “I will never lie to her again.”
Edward cracked a smile and shook Blade’s hand. “Word to the wise,” he began.
“I already told him about the chocolate cake issue,” I hissed. Edward and Blade laughed.
“Welcome back to the family!” Blade’s little brothers exclaimed, running up to us.
“Mazel tov,” Weston said, walking by with a tray of macaroni salad in little plastic cups. He handed us each one.
“Why?” I said, looking at it in horror.
“This is left over from your reception,” he said with a snort. “There’s a whole fridge full of it, so eat up!”
I glanced at Blade, and we burst out laughing. Blade took a bite of the salad then kissed me.
“Welcome to Harrogate,” he said with a quirk of his mouth.
“I can’t think of anywhere else I’d rather be with the man I love most,” I told him.
“And there’s nowhere else I’d rather be than with the love of my life and the woman of my dreams.”
