I put one hand on her knee, and the other I stroke down Leo’s back. “Stay here. I’ll be right back.”

I walk through the house and pick up the gift, then walk back into the living room. As soon as Luna sees me, she gasps. “Oh my, Cole! Is that? That’s the kitten…”

I nod. “Yeah, the one from the alley. We’ve been searching for it since then. I knew you would be worried about it.”

She holds the kitten to her chest, and I see what this gift means to her. “Cole, I can’t believe you did this. I love you.”

Leo gets up and stretches. He looks at the cat, yawns, and then lies back down as if he’s bored with the whole situation. Luna holds both cats against her chest.

“You need to name her.” I gesture to the kitten.

Luna strokes her orange hair. “Princess.”

I slide back into my position on the couch and pull Luna against me. It’s like a competition between the cats on who can purr the loudest, and I love seeing how happy it makes my wife.

I pick up my phone and start typing a message.

“What are you doing?” Luna asks.

I continue typing. “Sending out a group text to the family.”

She grins. “Telling them about the new addition to the family?”

I chuckle. “I’ll tell them about Princess too, but no, I’m letting them know that we’re going to Hawaii next week and we’re going to need help with the shelter.”

Her eyes light up. “We’re really going to Hawaii?”

I nod, and she curls into me. “I love you, Cole.”

I kiss her hair, holding my wife, our animals, our life wrapped up in my arms.

This is everything.

Nothing in my life looks the same anymore. She changed all of it. She is all of it.
