Today is only our second appointment with this pregnancy, the last one included both a paternity and sex test, and we’re here to collect the results.I personally don’t need them; I’m sure I know both the sex and the father, and it’s not that my pack doesn’t believe me—we’ve got high stakes involved—sleeping positions and date nights for the winner.
“Lennon,” Heidi starts as she waves a seat at me once I have my panties back on. Gabe holds my hand as I sink into the seat. “Everything is looking better than we expected. Heart rate for you is exactly where it should be, your body is supporting the foetus. And most certainly I’m saying you’re eighteen weeks, three days along. I want you to continue with light exercise, swimming over anything jarring. Definitely nothing like riding a horse or a bike.”
“It’s all good, our Len is too busy riding one of us to start doing any of that,” Gabe adds sardonically, using the tone he’s recently picked up after being around Noah so much.
I laugh so hard I pee myself, just a little bit. Which only makes me laugh more.
Initially, getting my pack to make love to me after Blaine was born was a nightmare. They completely forgot about my omega genetics and the way my body transforms into being a baby making machine. Everything was back in place within twenty-four hours, and I got pregnant within two weeks of Blaine’s birth—and let me tell you, thinking about that first orgasm Noah gifted me, still gets me all hot and bothered.
My pack is not reluctant anymore about us having sex. The cocky bastards find it a complete turn on seeing my tummy swell and knowing they’re the cause of it.
“Any questions, before I leave you?” she asks.
Our appointment isn’t hurried but at the same time I talk on zoom with her once a week, and at least two of my pack sit in and talk through any issues or questions they have about me, my body, or our baby. It’s pretty fucking perfect really.
She and Leslie leave us. A small white envelope sits on the desk. I pick it up and hand it to Gabe with a wink, before squatting in front of Eos to tell him the news of more crying babes on the way. Valak squats behind me, his hands cupping my pregnant tummy, and Eos drops his nose to where his hands touch. This is the moment.
I really don’t need Gabe to open up and tell me the results—I know it already. I feel it in my bones. Our world is going to expand rather quickly—my twins, filling me with twins. I also know we’re welcoming a miracle of miracles into our lives, because both Gabriel and Valak are going to be daddies at the same time. Superfecundation delivers us two foetuses that share the same space—the concept of only the strong survive is a bit of a laugh considering both my twins are as strong as each other. Much like I’m sure their children will be – strong in every way.
Gabe rips the envelope without any prompting, and I feel Valak’s breathing pick up. His anxiety adds a bitter twist to his bergamot scent, but it is still soothing against the back of my neck.
Then my loudest, most gregarious lover is silenced by what he reads.
“Gabe! Seriously, cut the fucking melodramatic pause and tell me…” Valak snarls over his shoulder. Eos stands and locks his eyes on Gabe, but I click my fingers at him to sit.
The room stays quiet though, like you could literally hear a pin drop. But a rush of warm honey fills the space, where Gabe should be using his words, not his scent to tell his brother our news. The silence really does stretch out, until Gabe finds his words.
“Fuck me dead, I’m going to be a father,” Gabe whispers. I can hear his awe, and his shock, “little boy too. Eighteen weeks, two days old.” He groans before he continues, “You deadshit, Valak, always have to be first, don’t you…”
“What?” Valak squeaks like a mouse. And he definitely panics as he struggles to put together what his brother is telling him.
“Valak, fuck! You’re bringing endless trouble to our door! How could you, bro!” Gabe taunts him more.
It’s really hard to turn around quickly in a squat when you’re pregnant, but I manage to turn in Valak’s arms and put his hands on my stomach, where of course our baby kicks her daddy.
“Tell me.” Val’s white as a ghost, his eyes wide in equal measures of fear and awe.
“A little baby girl, who is slightly older than her brother by one fucking day! You couldn’t let me have Len’s baby first, could you!” He’s toying with his brother, winding him up, because Gabriel is elated to share this with his twin.
“I’m going to be a father? A little girl?” Valak flounders. He definitely struggles saying that last bit out loud, because holy shit, he’s about to go postal. He’ll be building a wall around our house and never letting her out when he realises the reality we’re not only having a little girl, but an omega.
I try to keep him focused on the here and now, “You’ll be the best dad for her too. Eos will help you look after us both.” I lean in to kiss him. And to wipe the tears that gather in his beautiful brown eyes.
But I watch, half horrified, half expectantly, as those brown eyes roll backwards as Valak faints
“Third times a charm, huh, Len?” Gabe says as he leans down to kiss me.
