“No, Angel. There’s a body in there.”
Angel frowned. “What the fuck? What the hell is going on here?”
“Put me down,” Emily urged.
As instructed, Angel lowered her to her feet. Emily dropped her head and closed her eyes.
“Emily, we gotta-.”
She cut him off with a hand. She needed to think. In seconds, Emily gathered her thoughts. They didn’t have much time. She’d put them both in a predicament that needed to be handled with precision. Angel had just shot her client to death.
“Okay, honey. Listen to me. You have to leave,” she told Angel.
The look on his face said that he was gearing up for a fight. Emily looked into his eyes and placed her hand on his chest.
“You’re not even an American citizen. You’ll end up in some shitty detention center,” she warned.
Angel frowned. “I don’t give a fuck! I’m not leaving you here!”
Emily sighed. “You have to, Angel. Trust me to handle this. You need to give me the gun,” she told him.
Angel wrinkled his brow and looked at her like she grew a third eye in the middle of her forehead.
“So, you think that I’m going to give you my gun and let you take the wrap for shooting the crazy puta?”
Angel chuckled and pulled his phone out of his jacket pocket. He tapped the screen and waited.
“Who are you calling?” Emily asked.
Angel ignored her question and spoke into the phone.
“I need the police,” he said when he got an answer.
He glared at Emily as if daring her to challenge him. “Give me this address again,” he ordered.
Emily sighed and rattled off the address to her stubborn man. She waited until he was done with the phone call, then smacked him on the arm.
“Good God, you’re stubborn,” Emily accused.
Angel grabbed her arm and guided her toward the door. He opened it and escorted her down the walkway. Emily grabbed his hand and pulled him to look at her. She reached up and caressed his face and sighed.
“Thank you for saving me, honey,” Emily said with a heavy sigh. “But I gotta tell ya… Valentine’s Day can kiss my ass!”
Angel laughed and pulled her in his arms. He lifted her chin with his fingers and graced her with a sweet kiss.
“Okay, querida. No more Valentine’s Day shit for us,” he promised with a chuckle.
The End
