Ivy released the first arrow, and it hit the target dead center. Quite surprising, really, considering he’d kept her up most of the night. They’d talked a great deal about everything and anything. He’d also kissed her. Things had got heated, and when his hands had been on her breasts, Bram had decided it was time to call a halt to the night before he did what he was aching to: Make love to his future wife.

“Did I ever tell you that I knew Miss Birdwhistle’s mother, Bramstone?”

“Ah, no. I’m not entirely sure why you would have.”

Ivy was standing there, swinging her bow, looking so bloody sweet he wanted to grab her and kiss her again.

“She was a lovely lady and told me she had great hopes for her only child. She also hoped she would be there to see her happily married.”

Bram dragged his eyes from Ivy long enough to look down at the woman at his side.

“I am trusting you to ensure she is indeed happy, Bramstone. And that I am there in her stead to see Miss Birdwhistle wed.”

He couldn’t look away. Something passed between them, and he managed a nod. “I will make it my life’s work to ensure her happiness, my lady.”

She smiled and patted his cheek, and then walked away.
