‘Of course! We’d love that!’
‘And we can do the sights.’
‘But wait … there’s three tickets here,’ Guy noticed.
‘There are. Look at the last one.’
Guy stared at a return ticket with Libby’s name printed on it.
‘I know I may have had a little too much to drink but I don’t understand.’
Libby smiled. ‘It’s mine. I’m flying back with you at the end of your trip. Dad planted a seed and it grew into a clear vision of what I want my future to be. I’m already successful in my field and attracting celebrities to my brand, which is why I was successful in the job interview. But I can do the job anywhere. I spoke to my boss about how I was feeling—my worries about being so far away from friends and family—and she was brilliant and understood this is a major move. She agreed that if I go for an initial two months to meet the team, build a rapport and gain the experience of working alongside everyone, after that I can be flexible about where I’m located. Flynn has agreed to set me up a studio here so I can split my time between New York and Heartcross.’
‘I can’t believe what I’m hearing. Are you sure this is what you want?’
‘Yes. Today was the best day. I love my family and I want to be near my dad, Flynn and Julia. My friends are here, and you and Holly are going to be here, and as far as the apartment in New York goes … it’s mine for a year whatever I decide.’
Guy raked his hand through his hair. ‘I’m lost for words. This is just amazing. I knew we could work this out. I wanted to work it out. You, Libby Carter, are my enough.’
‘Enough?’
‘Yes, my enough,’ he confirmed. ‘I know we are going to have a lot of things to work through but what I’m trying to say is that I’ve got everything I need and want: you and Holly.’
This was the reassurance Libby hadn’t realised she needed, and she knew she’d made the right choice. She threw her arms around him and whispered, ‘And you and Holly are my enough.’
They locked eyes and Libby leaned in to kiss him. ‘Oh my gosh, you have to go,’ she said, springing up from the settee. ‘Go! You have to go!’
‘What do you mean? Why? What’s going on? I thought we could find out whether I’m a true Scotsman,’ Guy said, looking a little hurt.
Still pushing him towards the door, Libby thrust a Santa’s hat into his hand. ‘It’s Christmas Eve … correction, Christmas Day. You need to make sure all of Holly’s presents are waiting for her in the morning.’
‘Oh my God! It slipped my mind.’ Guy pulled on the Santa hat.
‘Good job it didn’t slip mine. We can’t have a broken-hearted little girl in the morning.’
Guy pointed at Libby. ‘Did you just say “we”?’
‘I did. Guy Hart, we are a team.’
‘I like the sound of that.’ He kissed her quickly. ‘I’ll be back!’
‘That’s good because I still need to find out if you’re a true Scotsman!’
As Guy hurried out the door, Libby cheekily attempted to lift his kilt but failed. ‘You make sure you hurry back!’
It wasn’t long before Guy slipped into bed next to her. With his arms wrapped around her body he kissed her. ‘This is the best Christmas I’ve ever had.’
‘Me, too,’ she replied, her lips finding his. Running her hands up his thighs she dared to venture higher. ‘I’m glad to discover you’re a true Scotsman. Merry Christmas!’
As their hands started exploring each other’s bodies, Libby reached over and switched off the bedside lamp. Flynn and Julia’s winter wedding was a memory that would stay with her and Guy for ever, a day filled with magic, romance and the promise of a bright future together. After their conversation, she knew she was going to be enough for Guy, and as she contemplated spending the rest of her life by his side, she felt as if her heart would burst with happiness.
