“Yes. Yes! Yes!” Her hands went to his shoulders as he stood up on shaky legs and then she kissed him, a kiss that was hard and full of passion that seemed to be growing the longer they were together.

The quiet bartender who had a secret, the girl who was followed one night and headed to his, was going to marry him.

“I can’t believe you planned it for here.” She was still holding on to him as they parted. “Did you plan it? Or was this spontaneous.”

Alex pointed to the team in front of them. The catcalls and whistles were still coming. “They knew. I would’ve asked you months ago, but this seemed right. There’s a ring waiting for you back at the hotel.”

She smiled again and then wiped eyes that held tears. “I love you and I sometimes can’t believe you’re real.”

“You know I’m real. I leave clothes all over the bedroom floor, am a terrible patient and never got the idea of why I should put the toilet seat down. I’m just lucky enough that you think I’m wonderful. And I think you’re amazing.” He’d found since August last year that he did have words, although he still preferred to show her how he felt.

“I can’t believe you proposed. Here. It’s just…”

“I’m just glad you said yes. Told you I’d work at it.” He held her close, resting his forehead to hers.

“You did. We did. My world may have been shaken, Alex Maynard, but it’s you that made sure it was sweet in the end.”
