“Especially when she’s asleep.” Raven giggles, casually rocking back and forth.
“She’s a miracle baby,” Delilah gushes, admiring her fondly. “I helped deliver her.”
“Wait…” Looking at Wilder, my eyes widen at the realization. “She’sthat girl?”
He texted when Delilah and Raven got kidnapped three months ago by Raven’s ex, and she went into labor. Once the police found them and took him into custody, they took the girls to the hospital. That’s when Wilder and Delilah found out she was pregnant with twins.
“Yep.” Raven blows out a shaky breath. “That’s me.”
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to say it like that.” I wince, shaking my head. “Your name didn’t click in my head until Delilah said that, and now I feel like a jackass for not realizin’.”
“Bad word!” Sam blurts, and everyone cracks up at my slip.
“Shoot, I’m sorry.” I frown.
“That’ll be five dollars.” Sam holds out his palm, sounding as serious as he looks.
“Sam,” Amelia scolds under her breath, her face turning a gorgeous shade of red.
“Nah, he’s right.” I pull out my wallet and hold out a twenty. “You got change?”
“Nope.” Sam yanks it from my fingers.
“Does that mean I’m good for three more bad words?”
Sam taps a finger to his lips. “I guess.”
Then the little entrepreneur runs off toward my aunt and uncle, waving the money like a trophy.
“Sorry ’bout that.” Amelia sighs, moving Lily to her other hip. “I’ll get it back for you.”
“It’s no biggie.” I wave her off, then quickly add with amusement, “But if I go over ten curses, I’ll have to hit the ATM.”
When her tongue peeks out between her teeth and her smile widens, I’m tempted to lean in and steal a kiss.
I bet she tastes like lavender and honey.
Fuck…I sound like a creep. We just met for God’s sake.
But it’s hard not to be infatuated with her beauty and sweet laughter. My chest hasn’t stopped squeezing since we locked eyes. If I were wearing my smartwatch, it’d alert me to my irregular heart rate and prompt me to call 911.
“He’s gotten over a hundred dollars from me.” Wilder scoffs. “Always catches me when I’m not payin’ attention or don’t realize he’s ’round.”
Delilah snorts. “That’s how he gets ya.”
“Pretty sure my IOU is up to seventy-five bucks,” Raven says, swaying gently. “I told him I didn’t have cash on me, but instead of takin’ pity on me, he said he’d start a tab.”
Amelia pinches the bridge of her nose. “I dunno where he learned that. He’s too smart for his own good.”
After a while, Wilder and Delilah are pulled away to mingle with the other guests, leaving Bodie and me with the girls.
“Can I get you a drink?” I ask Amelia when Bodie follows Raven toward the reception area. He even carries the diaper bag like a gentleman. When he glances over his shoulder, I grin and shake my head.
“Um…sure. Just a glass of wine, please. I can’t have too much since my kids are up early, no matter how late they stayup.” She tilts her head toward Lily, who’s half-asleep on her shoulder.
“No problem. Be right back.”
Lanterns and hay bales line the walkway to the large white tent decorated in gorgeous white tulle and fairy lights. The floral centerpieces match the wedding colors in various shades of purple. The Hollises outdid themselves in making everything look rustic and vibrant at the same time. Not that I’m surprised. Landen, Wilder’s younger brother, had his wedding at my family’s resort a few years ago, and it was beautifully done as well.
