I don’t like the idea of keeping anything from him, and even though this isn’t my secret to reveal, if he finds out I knew and didn’t tell him, he’d be hurt the same way I would be.
“Raven’s pregnant.”
“Really? That’s awesome.”
“Yeah, except…” I lick my lips and clear my throat. “She hasn’t told the father yet.”
“Wait, are you…” He adjusts our bodies until he can look me in the eyes. “It’s Bodie’s, ain’t it?”
“Yep.”
“Shit,” he mutters. “When’s she gonna tell him?”
“She says after the holidays, but she’s not lookin’ to get into a relationship, so I’m not sure how it’s gonna work. Especially since she doesn’t live up here.”
“He’d move down there for her, if she let him.”
“That’s what I was thinkin’, but I’m not sure she’ll want that.”
“Damn. He’s gonna be so excited to be a dad, but so bummed if she doesn’t want more.”
“I know, but it’s why you can’t say anythin’. She needs to have a serious conversation with him on what they’re gonna do.”
“Wow, fuck.” He scrubs a hand through his hair. “And to think, things were just settlin’ down ’round here.”
I bark out a laugh, thinking back to how I said something similar to Wilder and Delilah about it being too peaceful in Sugarland Creek, so it was time for something to happen.
“Looks like they’re ’bout to get interestin’ again.”
bonus epilogue
Colton
Even though I’vehad nine months to prepare for becoming a dad, nothing could’ve prepared me for the overwhelming emotions that come with seeing your newborn for the first time.
Wilder Maddox Langston was born on March 20that two in the afternoon after four hours of labor. And from the second I saw him, I fell in love.
Amelia has a tradition of naming her kids after important people in her life, so I was more than happy to honor my cousins, who both saved her in different ways.
Without meeting Wilder, who gave her a job and safe place to live, I would’ve never met her. And without Maddox, who saved her after being attacked, we wouldn’t have been able to find justice against her mother.
“He looks so much like you,” Amelia hums, staring at his sleepy face while she cradles him.
“Really? I think he looks like you.”
“He also looks like Sam when he was a baby, but he’s definitely a perfect blend of both of us.”
Leaning down, I kiss the top of her head. “Heisperfect.”
“He really is.”
“You did such an incredible job, darlin’.”
“It helped that you were lettin’ me crush your hand the whole time.”
I stretch out my fingers, impressed that they aren’t bruised. “Anytime, love.”
Bodie and Bellamy are on their way to the hospital with the kids so they can officially meet their baby brother. After legally adopting Sam and Lily, we changed their last name to Langston, and soon, Amelia’s will also change.
