“Yeah, three times. And called,” Samuel responds.

“She told us to wait for her text before comin’, but I dunno…” Maddox hesitates. “She should’ve sent one by now.”

I’m kicking myself for not going or being closer. She insisted I stay home with the kids and I trust them, but I hate not knowing what’s going on inside that house.

“Shit, get down,” Samuel blurts.

“What the fuck? What is it?” I ask.

“My mom’s car. She’s comin’ outta the driveway”

“Is Amelia inside?”

“I don’t think so. Should we follow her?” Samuel asks. He’s the one who drove since he knew how to get there and is familiar with the area.

“Fuck, I dunno.” Maddox blows out a breath. “My gut tells me something’s wrong. The whole point of us drivin’ ’em was to protect her when she confronted her mom or she tried blackmailin’ her to sign the papers. And if the plans had changed, she would’ve told us.”

I nod in agreement. “Samuel, can you get inside the house without gettin’ caught?”

“Pfft. Sneakin’ out and back in was my number one talent. The only issue might be if there’s staff in the house, but if she’s keepin’ Amelia against her will, she’d put her somewhere isolated.”

“Like where?”

“One of the bedrooms, maybe. The staff sticks to the kitchen and entertainin’ areas, but there’s probably a nurse or two by my father.”

He pulls onto the road, and I watch as they approach the house—or rather, mansion. When he parks in the back, I wait to see what he decides to do next.

“Keep me on the line, and I’ll mute myself.”

“I’ll put you halfway into my pocket so you can still watch where we go.”

“Thanks, Madd. Update me when you can, though.”

He nods before tucking me into his pants. Then I hear him shuffling around and telling Samuel he’s bringing his guns.

I’m curious how they’re going to get inside undetected. Samuel’s dressed in a wig and hat and is on the smaller side. Maddox, however…he’s a beast. He won’t be able to sneak around as easily or quietly.

“Everythin’ okay?” Bodie enters my office. I asked the twins to come help with the kids since Amelia would be gone most of the day.

“They lost contact with Amelia,” I tell him. “They’re sneakin’ into the house to go look for her.”

“Oh fuck. What happened?”

“They dunno. She hasn’t responded to their messages, and her mom drove off without her.”

“Are you gonna call the police?”

“Maddox’s handlin’ it.”

As much as I trust him, I’m two seconds away from jumping in my truck and racing there.

“Colt…” He stares at me. “What if she did somethin’ to Amelia and she’s in the trunk of the car?”

My pulse beats rapidly in my neck. “I don’t wanna think that way, but if they can’t find her inside the house, they’ll figure out plan B.”

“Let’s hope so.”

He sits with me as we watch the screen, but my thoughts are racing so fast, I can’t keep up.
