“Becca.” He held out a hand with a hesitant smile. “It’s really nice to meet you.”
“I’m hoping I can say the same.”
Hank’s smile grew, and he clapped his brother on his shoulder. “You’ve got a keeper, man. She looks like she wants to beat my ass.”
“I wouldn’t stop her if she decided to.” Harrison pulled me out of Hank’s reach and into the crook of his arm. “And I know she’s a keeper.”
“So you got a sister, Becca?”
Hank’s question broke the tension in the room, and everything was a dream after that. It wasn’t until hours later, after champagne and cake, hugs and laughter, that Harrison waved goodbye to everyone and took my hand.
“I cleared it with the girls, you can stay at my place tonight.”
“They’ll know we’re doing it!” I blurted, my face already turning hot. “You could’ve had me sneak out.”
“Ah, sweet Becca. They know we’re doing it.” He kissed my temple and kept me nice and tight against him. “But it’s cute you care.”
“Shut up.” I playfully punched him in the side, but it got him laughing more. “Be careful or I’ll hit you with my left hand. I got a huge rock on it, so it’ll hurt.”
“Yeah?” He stopped us on the short walk to his house and held my hand in his. “It looks really good on you. I’ve been thinking about this since last winter.”
My insides went all gooey, and I wanted to declare my love for him in a million ways. “You’re a little mushy, my Big Grump.”
“Don’t tell anyone. It’ll ruin my reputation.”
“I think the cat’s out of the bag on that one.” I stood on my tiptoes and planted a kiss on his perfect lips. “I love you. All of you. And I want to share a house with you, have kids with you, go on brunch dates with Blair, and pretend I like golf with you and my dad. I even kinda like football now.”
“Don’t push it. We all know you hate football.” He picked me up, bridal style, as we walked toward his house. “But everything else you said, yes. I know we haven’t talked about it, but are you moving in with me in June?”
“You bet your butt I am. I already moved some of your clothes in the closet to fit mine. I have a lot of them, in all different colors, too.”
“Of course you do.” He set me down on the porch, taking his time studying my face, and tracing my jaw with kisses. “Speaking of clothes… I need to take all of yours off. Immediately.”
“Or what?” I teased, earning a growl from him.
He pressed me up against the front door, slowly moving his lips against mine. He gently tilted my mouth to deepen the kiss.
I couldn’t believe I was going to spend my life with this man. “Let’s do it in front of the fire, for old times’ sake?”
“We can do it in any room you want. I just require that you wear the ring, and that’s it.”
“Thatwe can agree on.” I took the keys from his hands and opened the door, dragging my man into the living room and shoving him onto the couch. “I can’t wait to marry you.”
His smile was the perfect response, and when the first snowflakes fell hours later, I sent a silent prayer of thanks for the blizzard a year earlier. Things happened for a reason, and it didn’t matter how Harrison and I found each other.
We did, and life couldn’t have been better.
