“Calm down, dear. He’s got a girlfriend, not a wife, with children on the way,” he says, trying to control my mom’s excitement.
I don’t mind.
I’m happy to bring her joy, and I see myself with Sarah in the future, hopefully, with a small tribe of children and a big ring on her finger.
“Yeah, we’re not there yet,” I tell them, feeling good about telling my parents about her.
I’ve met her dad, so it’s only right that my family knows of her, too.
She will probably be intimidated when I tell her, still a little scared of the big feelings, but I’ll soothe her.
“We’re excited to meet her,” they tell me as I’ve make it to the doorway of her office.
I’m looking at Sarah, who’s concentrated on her computer in front of her, lost in work.
I smile as she senses my stare and gives me a breathtaking smile.
“Yeah, me too.”
Chapter 22
Sarah
My favourite part of my day just turned up.
Alexander hangs up the phone, leaning against the doorframe, his hair damp from a shower.
Samantha is out of the office, which I’m grateful for, because the feelings my man is stirring up don’t need an audience.
“Good call?” I ask, feeling the longing that always arises when he’s near.
He closes the door behind him before making his way over to me.
He gestures for me to stand up from my chair, before he sits down and drags me into his lap.
He gives me a scorching kiss, and I sink into his body, getting lost in his touch.
When we break apart, he gazes up at me, stroking a lock behind my ear.
“My parents, actually,” he says, reading my expression.
Alexander always speaks fondly of his family, and whenever he’s had a call with any of them, he’s got this peace about him.
“How are they?” I ask, nuzzling into his neck, smelling his body wash and aftershave fresh on his body.
“They’re good. I told them about us,” he says, making me halt my movements.
Alexander misinterprets my reaction as fear or doubt and holds me closer.
“I don’t mean to put any pressure on you, Sarah, but I just couldn’t help myself,” he says.
I bring my hands around his neck, looking into his eyes.
“Alexander, you’re misunderstanding. I love that you told them about us. My dad knows about us, you just surprised me. I’m excited to meet your family,” I tell him, giving him a quick kiss.
I had my fears going into this, mainly connected to my independence and letting him in.
As soon as I accepted my feelings for him, I was all in.
