“She fell on me.”
“I figured that out, but it was too late by then.” She giggles.
I make love to her, slowly this time. As we fall asleep wrapped around each other, I realize we only made it a day and a half before she told her family we’re married.
Epilogue
Stormy
Sitting in the large family room of the home Atlas and I share with River and Klay, I stare at my father and brother. It’s been two weeks of raised tension, mostly from Thad but some from my father too. I’m ready to end this. Maisy sits next to me, and she just told my family some of what I went through while I was recovering. I don’t want them to know everything. They shouldn’t hear that.
My husband sits at my side like he has since the moment I learned to trust him. I was the one who decided to put our relationship in a box. I regret that now, but I will never regret him.
I still have a lot of recovering to do. We need to find Andrus and put an end to him, but I’m ready to move on with my life.
Scout asked if I wanted my old job back, and after Tink called to speak to her, I’m going to become an actual member of the Devil’s Handmaidens MC. I’m ready to help rescue people, just as Maisy did for me.
“I’m sorry. Rose and I talked about it last night,” my father says, calling Vixen by her real name. “We weren’t there when you were taken or when you met Atlas, but he takes care of you and makes you happy. That’s all that matters.”
I reach across the table to take his hand.
I look at my brother, and he reaches out to hold my hand too.
“I wasn’t there when you needed me,” Thad says. “I’m sorry. Titan and I will work out our differences.”
“No.” I pull my hand away. “There is nothing for you to work out. It was my idea to hide our marriage. I’m happy and safe with Atlas. You’ll either accept him, or you can leave.” I give him a choice, and Thad sits back in his chair, shaking his head.
“You really have changed. I like the new you. I like your spunk, little sister.”
I stand up and round the table as Thad does the same, and we hug.
It’s not happily ever after yet, but I have my president, and he has his poison. Together, we’ll take care of Andrus.
