Dash nodded.
“No wonder why you were so upset she was leaving.” Mason grinned. “All I can say is it’s about time.”
“What do you mean?” Dash asked.
“She’s been a surrogate wife for as long as I’ve known you. I love Rachael, but she doesn’t do all the things Iris does for you.”
“It’s her job. She has a strong work ethic.”
“She does, but for you, she doesn’t go above and beyond. It’s more like, in the immortal words of Buzz Lightyear, Iris goes to infinity and beyond.”
Everything she did appeared to be so effortless. “I took her for granted.”
“Yep, the two of you were practically married,” Mason joked. “Might as well make it official.”
“Not funny.”
Mason’s mouth fell open. “You’re totally gone for her.”
“We’re friends. I…” Dash glanced at his phone. Still no reply. A hundred and three scenarios ran through his head. None good. His chest tightened. “Yeah, I am.”
Mason’s face brightened. “So when are you going to put a ring on it?”
Henry leaned around in his seat. “Did someone mention a ring?”
Mason nodded, grinning like a fool. “Dash is crazy about Iris.”
“About time.” Henry smirked.
Mason laughed. “That’s what I said. Now if Wes and Paige have a spring wedding, and then Dash proposes and marries Iris before July thirteenth, the bet is off and we split the fund.”
Dash shook his head. “Should have known the bets all you cared about.”
“It’s not the only thing.” Mason motioned to Dash’s phone. “Still, no word?”
Nothing was on his screen. He slumped. “Nope.”
Henry’s gaze darkened. “Is something wrong?”
“Iris hasn’t replied to any texts, and Wonderkid is worried about her,” Mason explained.
“Thank you for that recap, Mase.” Henry appeared to be holding in a laugh. He looked at Dash. “Want me to see what I can find out?”
Dash straightened. “Yes, please. Iris mentioned you hired her a PI.”
“I don’t need him for this.” Henry grinned sheepishly. “I know the manager of the apartment building where Iris lives. I’ll have her check on her newest tenant.”
Huh? Something didn’t sound right. Especially knowing how easily Iris had found her place after having so much trouble.
Dash narrowed his gaze. “How do you know the manager?”
“I just do.”
“Not good enough.” Dash pressed. “Explain what’s going on.”
“Nothing really.”
Dash raised a brow.
