She tilted her head, trying to figure out what he meant. “Selfish?”

“How will you get here from your apartment?”

Iris hadn’t thought she’d go to his house once she left. All she’d considered was the location in relation to the culinary school, so she could walk. “I haven’t figured that out yet.”

“You mentioned having a budget,” he said without missing a beat. “Ride services add up. There isn’t a bus stop within walking distance, either. I can pick you up and drop you off, but that could make things difficult with my schedule. If you had a car, that’s one less thing I have to do.”

Dash had a point. “I hadn’t thought of that.”

Straightening, he grinned with pride. “I finally thought of something before you.”

That surprised her, but it also pleased her at the same time. Dash was changing and in good ways. Still… She glanced at the title and then at him. “This feels like too much.”

“It’s not.” He placed his arm around her. “But if you won’t do it for yourself, please do it for me. I won’t worry as much knowing you have safe, reliable transportation. See, selfish.”

That made her laugh.

He pulled her to his side. “Is that a yes?”

Iris blew out a breath. The car meant nothing to him. He’d only bought it so she’d have something to drive to the grocery store and to run his errands. “You really want…”

“I really do.”

“O-kay, but if you need it back, just say the word.”

“I won’t,” he said a beat later. “After you fill the title out, leave it on my nightstand.”

“Thank you.”

“No, thank you.” He kissed her quick on the lips. “This is as much for me as for you.”

She eyed him with suspicion. “Or might this be another billionaire perk?”

His expression turned mischievous. “Perhaps it’s both. Is that so bad that I want you to have everything you need?”

Dash was sweet. “No, I feel the same about you, but I don’t give you expensive gifts.”

“You would if you could,” he said with certainty.

“Maybe.” No, that wasn’t true. “Probably.”

He kissed her forehead. “Thanks for admitting that. I need to get downstairs. Henry—well, Frank—is picking me up.”

Dash held out his hand, and Iris grabbed it. Their fingers laced. “I’m so lucky to have you as my friend.”

“Soon to be your best friend,” he corrected.

“It’ll happen.” The way they spent time together and communicated, Iris had a feeling it wouldn’t be long until they were best friends again.

And maybe…more.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Sunday night, Dash sat in the cabin of Henry’s plane. The lights were dimmed. Someone snored. Most likely Wes, who’d enjoyed his bachelor weekend, letting loose for the first time since his remission. Before kickoff, however, Wes had claimed never to take another shot again. No one believed him, but all promised not to mention how much he’d drunk on Saturday.

Dash stared at his tablet. Still no texts from Iris. He’d received a few photos from her apartment, but nothing last night or today. He’d sent her pics from the game, but she hadn’t replied. That wasn’t like her.

He hoped everything was okay.
