I swallow hard against the welling emotions. “Derek, I—Are you serious?”

His thumb strokes over my wrist again. “Absolutely. I meant what I said, Ryan. I want you in my life, for good.”

I blink back the sting of tears, overwhelmed. “I don’t know what to say.”

“You could say yes.” He smiles. “If you feel the same way—”

“Yes!” The word explodes from my lips.

His smile widens and he pulls me into his arms. I cling to him, breathing in his scent, and feeling the warmth of his body.

“Thank God,” he murmurs against my hair. “I was hoping you’d say that.”

I laugh softly, giddy with joy and disbelief. “You were hoping, huh? And here I thought you had it all planned out.”

“Not everything.” He draws back to look at me, eyes shining. “But I did have hopes.”

I look at the key again. “Uh. Derek?”

“Mmm?”

“The key? I’m just checking—you are asking me to move in, right?”

He throws his head back in laughter before gathering his composure and taking the key from the box and placing it on my palm. He wraps my fingers around the key, enclosing my fist with his larger hand. He meets my eyes and I’m unable to look away. “Ryan Gardiner, will you move in with me?”

“Yes, Derek Rivers, I’d like nothing more. I love you.”

“I love you too.”

I clench the key tighter.

This is a key to his home—no—toourhome. But more than that, this key is a promise. The promise of a future together.
