“What Josh said, about your actions stopping something bad happening. It could have been a lot worse, couldn’t it?”
“Maybe,” Simon murmured.
“You knew that, but you kept your cool, dealt with Dion,andmade sure I was okay.”
“I’ll always make sure you’re okay.” Simon’s arm held him a little tighter. “I love you.”
“I love you, Si.”
Patrick placed his palm over Simon’s heart, feeling his chest rise and fall with each inhalation. Eventually Simon’s hold relaxed, and his breaths became slower and deeper. Patrick smiled into the darkness, allowing the regular rhythm to lull him into sleep.
He was at peace.
